Solar Power Caravan

Recently we paid $2800 to have a 200W solar panel fitted to our caravan roof plus two 100Mh batteries installed under the bed.

The price included a device that indicates what power we have in the batteries.  I think its usually between 12-13.5 amps. Also an anderson plug on the 4WD. (we already have twin batteries in the 4WD)

We alrady had a battery charger installed when we experienced problems a few years back.  MXS 25 CTEK.

The auto elec told us we could easily run our led lights, water pump and TV/DVD without any issues for at least 3-4 days whilst free camping.

On our first trip to (free camping, fully charged batteries) we were watching a DVD and upon turning on a lights the DVD shut down.  This even happeded with the TV. (The van was still connected to the 4wd via the anderson plug)  To cut a long story short we can't use the DVD or TV with the lights on, sometimes when using the pump the TV/DVD cuts out also. The power reading can drop from say 13.5 to 12 within a minute or so.

I am not getting much assistance from the auto elec so we decided to see if someone out there can give us some ideas/clues to a possible problem/solution.

I apologise for rambling but we are not technical people.

Thank you for reading this,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Sorry about your problems. Really you should put this in the Techies' Corner. 'They' do not always come on this one regularly, but they will answer just about anything if you can come back with answers to their questions so they can know what you have.confuse Years of experience there !!

Cheers jaahn

Hi Jaahn,

Thank you for the advice.

In all honesty I didnt realise there was a technical section.  I guess my computer skills are like my technical knowledge.

Cheers

Bob

Welcome to the gang Bob, enjoy here and out in the playground.

There are quite a few different sections of this great forum mate, just scroll through and look at what tickles your fancy. There are even "Stickies" within some sections as well. You will find a good "Sticky" in "Techies" all about Solar power. Good stuff in there by knowledgable people.

Read and post away in the appropriate section/s of the forum.

Keep Safe on the roads.

Dougwe, As a long term member you should realize by now that when first using a forum you are likely to make mistakes everyone does, so try not to be so abrupt with your advice hey?
