Got an email today from the NAB Bank alerting me about a ( scam) wanting to confirm my account detales and to click on a certain thing to make shore all my account detailes are correct, the funny part of all this is I don't have an account with this bank (NAB) the scammers didn't scam this little black duck, BE AWARE.
Yes Olley46, Probably for the last 5 or 10 years there have been warnings on TV, Newspapers and Web sites daily about scams, and almost every day there is a story of idiots being ripped off. I don't know if people have a grudge against their money or are blind or deaf. The latest one today is about a woman being taken for $300,000. If I could diddle somebody out of $300,000, I could tell Centrelink to give my share to the Joe Hockey Fund.

Simmo - it's not 'idiots' that are being conned by such scams but ordinary everyday trusting people. Were you never sent up the hardware shop for a pint of spotted paint? The 1st of April does it every year as well. If you have no trust in your fellow man then you lead a life always looking over your shoulder.

I repeat the first line of my comment:::

We get calls from an overseas call center telling us that they have to come & fix our home Telstra internet. Ónly our mobile phone is with Telstra. Our home phone & wifi internet are with some-one else. LOL.

I ask anyone that claims to be Telstra where did they get my number from and then tell them that they've actually called a Telstra back-office. Had some strange re-actions.
1. Non of the Australian banks will ever contact you via Email about your Accounts with them. FULL STOP.
2. No government dept will send you a Email regarding your private affairs. This Includes the ATO.
Regards Jim
I got an email from 3 banks investment arms (ANZ, CBA & NAB in that order) asking me to log in and look at my non-banking investments. All 3 had links to sign onto the investment arms using my bank usercode/password.
I don't bank with ANZ and never have so I ignored that.
The CBA had come via Commsec which I deal with. I wrote to them and they admitted it was not correct - refer NAB next. CBA would neither confirm if the email was a hoax or that someone had goofed.
The NAB finance arm who'd sent me the email couldn't understand what they'd done wrong. It was genuine but I was unable to explain to them (Indian, Chinese or Filipino?) that having a link to the bank logon screen in their email was against policy. "But we are not the Bank, we a ?????? department". I tried to go to a higher authority but all I got was a senior non-English person who was really only a staff supervisor and not a guru. I gave up.
The only way that your BANK will contact you is if you log on to your Internet banking, and you have a message in your in box after log on. And it will be ONLY be of
GENERAL NATURE ONLY.
NOT DIRECTED AT YOU PERSONALLY......... Re member snail Mail.................. ONLY.
Stop being greedy. If it looks too good to be true then it probably is. If you can't remember buying that raffle ticket then you probably didn't. If some one is asking for your personal details that you have already provided to the entity making the request then it's probably a scam. This isn't rocket science and if you're still unsure do web search and contact you service provider directly.
I realize this is a serious topic, but mention of call centers in India and Philippines reminded me of an amusing file I received about Telstra Customer Service. Do you mind if I lighten up the topic. Have a listen...
