This post was on one of the Facebook Camping Pages. A timely warning to all.
I am posting the following to alert all campers to the following issue.......I work for a Local Council who has installed 3 of these RV dump points and would like to take this opportunity to let users know they are NOT made for wipes or incontinence pants or anything else other than poo and pee.........I have to have the 3 eeled out by a plumber almost weekly to clear them from blockages which cause them to back up and overflow! I honestly believe that they're the worst thing ever! A constant cost to rate payers due to misuse. Please can this be shared if at all possible to get the message out there!
I had SWMBO use wet wipes in my Blackwater system in my Motorhome. Nearly a thousand dollars later. New Ball valve, two new pipe bends and reconfigured pipework, and modifications to the sump guard..
Not a nice job to do and all in such a confined space under the MH.
I believe the wet wipes and other such items are causing headaches at Sewerage plants all around Oz including the pipe network. Causing untold blockages.
Why would anyone put anything but wee, poo & obviously toilet paper into a Dump Point? Our main complaint is people emptying their cassettes in public toilet blocks & leaving a damn mess. The small public toilet at Avoca VIC Cemetery has a sign asking people to refrain from emptying their cassettes in the toilet. The Cemetery is right on the main Hwy. Disgraceful! As we always say, a minority giving the rest of us a bad reputation.

So if this is just what happens at Dump Points. What happens to the rest of the Non Nomadic worlds Pads and Sanitary gear.
Is it just Grey Nomads who put this stuff down the Grey Nomad Gurgler. I have never had to clear a Caravan type Dump Point that was blocked. But in the past I have had the joy of clearing blocked Sanitation Systems in ships and a few ashore. Some of the gear dumped in them that caused blockages was mostly disposed of by people a lot younger than 50 years old. Ciggy Butts, Tampons, Bandages, Whole toilet rolls, Towels, Balls, Broken Bottles, Dolls Heads, Nail brushes. Banana Skins, The list could go on.
What I wonder is, what percentage of Domestic Sewer Blockages are caused by the Grey Nomad type things. ? Is this just a Grey Nomad thing ? I think not.
Of course it's not just Grey Nomads. Back in the '80s I owned a hire houseboat on the Murray river. Most of the customers were under 40 and in spite of signs and verbal instructions the toilet system was regularly blocked by all the above. A nasty job to clear too
Having cleared my toilet in motorhome ... I wouldn't wish it on anyone ... The ( let's just say water ) runs down your arm ..
No matter how often you wash the smells there fore at least two days !! In my case the wipes blocked the tap / valve and agitator on pump.. Only with who (should) be obeyed cleaned it ... Right ...
Couple of years ago at Greens Lake, after New Years Eve reverlries, a full size towel had to be pulled out of the mens toilet, by one of our members!!!!! Why would you put a towel (covered in blood after an altercation, by the way) down a toilet when there is huge skip bin about 10 mtrs away???????

I have been covered in the effluent when a circulation sprayer hose came adrift off the spray bar. (Twice) The sprayer holes would be blocked and the pressure blows the hose off. This was a 75mm hose. Full of very liquid effluent. Grey watery porridge. The pump switch was mounted in a place were you had to pass the whip like end of the hose to switch the pump off.The holes were blocked by bandage fibres, Pondered in a Sherlock Holmes like fashion I went snooping. I then went around the ship enquiring who was using a 50 mm bandage. I wont tell anymore, but I bet he still talks about me. I hope he questions my parentage.
I suppose that this is a good a place as any to ask.
We're in the market for our first van. And what is novel to us is that modern vans have toilets and showers on board.
So, I've watch various videos on how to manage these cassette toilets and so on. Fairly simple to empty in dump points.
Last night I read a review on a new caravan which has its own black water storage tank. I think that it holds 150l or something like that.
How do you go emptying THAT?
I called a caravan park in Cowes, Phillip Island to enquire about its facilities. I asked about dump points. The woman said that I could empty it into a toilet...
I think the cassettes are more flexible, do not need to move to empty and some dump points could be better located. Have seen some largish motor homes with 2 or 3 cassettes for more range/flexibility between dump points.
To me the jury is still out for grey water tanks ( chassis mounted) for caravans. Maybe a small chassis mounted unit for places like Cooktown and portable screw on cap container for convenience in other locations.
Black water gets emptied into dump points .. Call into info centres .. They are only too happy to help.. Camps 8 has addresses and locations of dump points, parks etc .. iPhone search can find if there's one in town also.. Wiki also has info.. It's not so much using toilets .. I can't get over how dirty and inconsiderate some people are .. Goes to show how clean there own place is .. Then everyone gets banned from using facilities due to selfless people ... I don't care I won't be back attitude !

Staying with this subject we were recently camping at Wuruma Dam, (south of Monto Qld) where there was in excesss of 60 vans and motorhomes all free camping. The only toilet within 50 km was a single male female septic system that was repeatedly compromised by both men and wowan empting toilet bottles and buckets into this system treated with some form of chemical and this includes Dettol demestos bleach and Nappy san in an attempt to get around the no dumping of cassettes into toilet rule. I dont know how people can turn up at a remote camping site with a cassette toilet and expect to stay for an extended period. The day is fast approching when Sun Water will restrict Wuruma Dam to 48 hrs and we will have to pay to stay because of these people. Dont get me started on the people empting their cassettes in the hills behind the dam.
Morality.
The moral justification of any intent will not mitigate the consequences, the intentionality of any action must include responsibility for the outcome.
I am with you Jules. I would NEVER empty cassette into chemical or Longdrop toilets, If no fit and proper place to dig a hole nearby, then throw it in the car and go find that fit and proper place,
as for depth of hole, ? I am sure that any person with the decency to dispose of their cassette contents responsibly would also have the common sense to decide that for themselves
Also with the MISUSE issue I have spoken to the Owners of an "A" Class Brand New M/Home at Leonora Dump/Water site as they had spent close to an hour washing their Rig and Towed vehicle with the Complimentary Metered town water supply. As they were blocking access to the tap before we arrived others had to cart water jerries and pull out long hoses to fill with water. At least they let these people do this but continued after with the Rig washing as they weren't finished..
After I had spoken with them and they hurriedly left leaving Great Gobs of MUD (more like Cow Daisies) behind them it was like walking through the Cow paddock. She complained of the POOR Water Supply but on inspection of the Meter System I that the Supply was fitted with a Water Capacity/Flow Limiting Device which if Excess Water was used the Flow reduced Considerably. Even after we filled with approx 80 litres the flow was still at Full Pressure.
I took photos but haven't posted online as yet as I hope these people have taken on-board what I spoke to them about and have learnt from their mistake.
