Interesting reading, but one of the points was about "the club" buying land to be used by their members. There are thousands of travellers out there who are not members of CMCA, who also camp in free spots (or low cost), and who inject a lot of money into the towns they visit.

There will always be people who go to. Caravan parks exclusively, but likewise there are many people who never use a caravan park at all.

Free camping enables travellers to spend their money in the towns, thus benefitting the whole town, not just one business.

You're dead right in what you state jules47,  I far as I'm concerned, we will always look for a free camp, for the simple reason that we, like many others can-not afford to spend every night in a caravan park.

It's interesting  to note that the person who is doing the "big cry" about not having any R.V's staying in his park, has made a comment...........

"I think if they would do the right thing here in Australia, they would look for properties or land to buy and buy it for the club, and then they can do whatever they like," Mr Zitcher said.

Isn't that like shooting him-self in the foot ?  If everyone went to a privately Club owned Park,  he would out of business very quickly!!

What say we all have a whip around and buy our-selves a  Block of land, just for Grey Nomads ???

KJ - I thought that was a funny statement for him to make as well - trouble is if we bought a block of land for GN's, we would need to go to the same place all the time, maybe. We are at a farmstay near Busselton at the moment (15k) $5 night stay as long as you like, no facilities, but that's ok by us, we are organised.

Heaps of farmstays over here in WA - and lots in other states as well - google Caravanovernightfarmstays - costs $11 to join, and you get details, and contact the farmer direct.

Just wondering if caravans would be welcome in a CMCA free camp. They are not encouraged at CMCA rallies even when members

Interesting point - I think they have a block of land somewhere in QLD, that will be for CMCA members only - so interesting to see if caravans are welcome.

CMCA promote "no mess" type camping which means you must have a grey water tank and be totally self contained when staying in RV friendly towns. These are springing up all over the country and I really wonder if shire and council CEOs realise that most caravans don't qualify as being self contained with no grey water tanks, when the whole concept is promoted to the shires as getting Nomads to stay and spend money in the town - even if its for only 24 hours.

There are some CMCA members here - perhaps they can explain where caravan owners sit in their organization. In past, others have said you can only be an associate member with little gain for the fee pain. Lets hear the true story from the CMCA.

The other concern with farmstays is in WA where the Govt is reviewing RV living/hosting - both at private premises, farmstays and caravan parks. Depending on the heavy lobbying being made by the CP associations, like Big 4, we can expect low cost or free camping to change in WA and then no doubt spread to other States.

The Nanny State is at it again - taking away our freedoms and access to PUBLIC land and that owned privately

WA isn't just a nanny state, it's a Police state as well. Never seen so many "No this & that" signs before. From what I read about the QLD CMCA site if you are a member & your van is self contained ( grey tanks fitted) you are welcome to stay.

This discussion could go on forever. Frankly I think any town that shuns grey nomads are short sighted and have no idea of good business, if my town was on a grey nomad pooh list I would be mortified. However there are councils out there that want just that. I say best avoided by GNs.

Some councils forget we are a tight knit community, we talk to each other and have issues with towns who come out with tripe like that. I do hope they read blogs and do their research before making comments like that, but I doubt it. While I'm not a member of the CMCA I can't see them being rich enough to buy up land for us nomads, nice thought though. Anyway what stops us camping (for a rest) anywhere in this great country? At the end of the day you can only be asked to move on. That will be sure to open a can of worms as well, now before anyone starts I only camp where I'm permitted. However, at the end of a day driving you only want to sleep and move on, so what's the issue with finding a safe spot and jumping into bed for safety sake?

Cheers

Comment has been made about the proposed CMCA RV Parks. Whilst these are members parks, members who own vehicles/caravans without grey water tanks won't be excluded. There will be totes available to connect the grey water outlet to and they can then be wheeled to the dump point for disposal.

Whilst comment is made re WA, the legislation is under review and the current consultation closes on 30th November, we do need you to respond and voice your concerns:
