Hello every one...Oh Boy went to 4 stores in Adelaide for lanterns and 2 of Bunnings stores had the lantern yet no battery packs...Coleman range of lanterns. I Went to Snowy out doors and man was not over helpful...Unsure of products...get to Rays out door and service was excellent yet got lost in the lumen amount and all that stuff...Could some one please educate me on the best lantern/lighting for out side the caravan at night please...Will Be free Camping and appreciate your help...Yes have 180 Watt Solar Power/Battery system set up.. and Big Yamaha Generator...yet still want to minimize things...
Have seen these 3 way lanterns with gas/petrol and would like opinions. It is a Night mare with so many to pick from yet running hours and batteries to use and so on...just want one for the nights out side the caravan as I feel the Caravan light out side will not be enough...also what is the best option for bug protection while travelling.. out side at night...
Your help is appreciated...Happy Travelling to you all...
We love our 'head lights'. They leave the hands free and the beam can be directed onto your book, food or the fire wood. The caravan light is OK if you are just sitting around chatting. We have a couple of battery ones from camping stores but also have a fantastic re-chargable one than has an incredible distance range - the brand is 'cree' and about $40 from ebay. Just make sure you get one with a 4 battery pack. Another top brand is 'lenser' but they are quite expensive.
We had a re-chargable Coleman lantern - lasted about 4 yrs and was OK and also had a duel fuel lantern but found it a pain to have to carry the fuel and spare mantels.

if youre intending to be sitting outside at dusk or evening, either on EBay or Bunnings, you can buy solar powered blue light insect zapper - just hang it up somewhere or even sit it on the ground. We've had one for 2 years now that I bought off E Bay (you can get cheap and nasties - ours cost about $50) and it actually works and the stored power lasts about 3 hours. Only good for those nasty little biters like mozzies - not enough grunt to kill flies. Bunnings has a good range and of course its easier to return the device if it doesn't do what you expected of it.
You can also buy 240v ones as well - we also have one of those and it does work better and doesn't take much charge out of your batteries.
