The following alert has been issued by the Department of Parks and Wildlife  
Cape Arid National Park remains closed until further notice.

   BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: 

• Two fires have been burning in the park. They are not contained but fire activity has reduced significantly.

ROAD CLOSURES:

All roads in Cape Arid National Park and Fisheries Track remain closed. Merrivale Road has been reopened.

RECREATION SITE CLOSURES:

Cape Arid National Park remains closed. 

EXTRA INFORMATION:

• The fire was reported at 1am on Sunday 18 October  
• The cause of the fires was lightning.
• The fires have burnt approximately 22,000 hectares.
• One caravan has been burnt.
