kinda new

Hi there, we have been on the road since January  2014 and travelled about 45 thousand kays. We have  been working in North Qld since July and  live in our Aussie Swag camper trailer, which we love. We like to get off the track when we are on the road  (so to speak ) and have started looking for a caravan. I joined the forum in the hope of getting some advice from more seasoned vanners. I choose not to tow any greater weight than 2.4 tonne, and would like to be able to get to the quieter locations, we love to go remote and self sufficient.  So I am looking at pop tops around 18 foot, ensuite and independent suspension a must, I definitely need clearance. I will be following many aspects of the forum as I have a keen interest in all things related to being on the road. Thanks in advance to those like minded travelers who's topics I may gain info from.  Welcome guys;  personally I think you need to decide on just what you need in a van & the amount of dollars you have to spend first; then start you home work as in looking at vans that will suit your application first. Then start asking the questions as to weather any one has any info on them, using, has had etc. There are so many makes & types out there today that it can be a bit hard.

Personally, stick to a well known brand that has been around for a length of time with a proven record. So many new names that are here today & gone tomorrow.

Cheers;

JC.

whatever you buy, if its new, bounce it around and work it hard if its an off roader. Unfortunately, most manufacturers turn out RVs that aren't that great and can probably expect to get a pile of mostly minor problems. I would suggest you buy and then use it for 2-3 weeks not too far away and then you can get all the repairs done by the Dealer

Hi Glen & Lib,

We are like minded.

We have gone for a Jayco Journey Outback 17.55/3 ( POP TOP) you can find it on the Jayco web site. Value for money ? Yes. It ticks ALL your boxes. We are getting a few small extra's added and is due late December. Getting excited now.

Regards Jim & Lambie

Thanks for that, I think we would look at used as our camper was used and has performed well. Heading off tomorrow  to  see a few models to get a feel, cheers

Have a look at the Gone Roaming part of my blog to get some idea of places we took our 14 foot (internal length) Trakmaster van.
