Welcome to the gang Clivo, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I don't use any of regular house toilet products as no need. I use a product that breaks things down and keeps smells at bay in the canister. There are many different RV Toilet products and some people even use the no name nappy sanitizer product with a little eucalyptus oil for the smell.

Everyone has there own ideas.

Maybe you could pop your question in "Techies" as there a different sections of this great forum for different things. Check them all out as there is some great info on this great forum.

After my recent trip thru West Qld. using the 'Nappy san' & Eucalyptus stuff that I have used for many years, I have decided to go back to the nice smelling commercial stuff & good quality air fresheners.  

Small cost in the scheme of things.

 

ps. We rarely use the CP facilities & empty the tank every 3 days but it still tends to pong a bit sometimes.  I can do without that.  I must be getting old/soft.

 

I'm not familiar with the Toilet Duck thingo, but if it is made for household toilets, it may not work too well with the restricted 'flush' of a van toilet.

Thanks all for your info. I'm prepared to try anything as long as it is safe and not detrimental to the quality of our van. We are new to this as it our first. I'm pretty pedantic when it comes to my gear so any advise I can get is good advise. Thanks once again

I suggest you buy & install an SOG system from AUssie Traveller, yes I know they are expensive but they are just fantastic, we have had ours about 8 years and would fit another one from new if we ever changed caravans.

Seems like another unnecessary layer of complexity Bliss, as well as another electrical doodad that will draw on power and eventually fail.

Will stick with the simplicity of a cassette and chemicals.smile

Gday Clive and a warm welcome from the bride and I.. We use wollies boost and the toilet duck in the syringe as described, so far not much pong. Its worked for us for ages now.

Mind you we empty every two days so it doesnt get time to pong...

Very similar to what others do, but I use SARD Wonder Oxy Plus .. dissolve in water and add a little Eucalyptus Oil.

Very handy stuff as I also use it (just a minimal amount) to wash my clothes .. no rinsing is necessary.

The author also cautions against the use of "biocidic chemicals" as these kill all bacteria, including those that assist in the biological breakdown of faecal matter. These chemicals can cause the failure of a septic tank system.

Napisan is popular with RV owners, but Rivers seems to be ambivalent towards this product and its clones.

 Interesting that the use of Napisan type products (sodium percarbonate) seems to have been vindicated.
