The same thing happened at Boondooma Dam as few years ago. Asked couple in motorhome to get their hose away from running into the water & put the water on the trees which were dying.

There is the perfect example of the benefit of using a grey water tank or as I use a 20 litre container  with a cap. From the second pic it's obvious that any discharge hose or not is going to go straight to the creek.

There is no excuse for bad behaviour though.

Mike.

Is that a Platypus I see floating belly up? Plenty of thoughtless RVers getting around like the 2 we saw a few days back free camped adjacent to Newey Reservoir (Cobar's water supply) with their sullage hoses running down the bank almost into the water.

 He obviously doesn't need a grey water tank no. But having a tank does not automatically make someone not an @r$#0le, his attitude just needs readjusting. Take pics and report him to the EPA in the state you're in.

Well done Hats, a holes like that should be asked to stay off the road forever. I have difficulty seeing photos like that. Makes us all look like monsters who care for nothing.

Maybe that bloke needs to join a forum like this one so he can learn what the right way to do things actually is.

I know of no training other than Tow-Ed that is available to purchasers who have never done this before.

maybe an opening for a new business

just thinking out loud

The world is full of selfish ignorant morons, and unfortunately some of them finish up buying a caravan.

If it means sorting out those that do the wrong thing so be it.

Good on ya. well done.

Gday...

The unfortunate attitude displayed by this camper - in a caravan in this case - is not unusual for far too many people when they get away from 'civilisation'.

I have been tent camping and bush camping since the early 1960s and I have seen people doing equally stupid things with their waste water ever since then.

  • Doing the dishes at the tent table, and then emptying the soapy dish water into the creek/watercourse or other senseless places;
  • Sitting in the creek, often with the kids as well, soaping up and having a good wash - including their hair;
  • Washing their clothes in the creek - soap and all;
  • Washing the dog in the creek - soap and all;
  • Dropping plastic and other rubbish that blows into the creek;
  • I could go on. cry

Unfortunately, these attitudes are rife throughout our society. Call it ignorance, lack of knowledge, inconsideration or just plain bloody-mindedness ... but one thing for sure - it will continue.

There are far too many people who do not get out into the bush, away from civilisation, often enough and because of the lifestyle they have enjoyed for the majority of their lives, they have no affinity with nature - and often just do not understand the consequences of their actions.

I guess all we can do is as the OP did in this thread - identify the problem, advise the people of their bad habit and if it does not change/correct that habit, refer it to 'authorities'.

Cheers - John

Question from a wannabe GN: when you're in free camping areas, what do you do if you can't run your drainage onto the ground? And when in caravan parks, say, a Big 4 or whatever are various holiday spots (Cowes, Phillip Island, Lakes Entrance and Merimbula come to mind), do they have facilities for water run-off?

In another thread there's a discussion about retro-fitting grey water tanks to vans. If whatever van we buy doesn't have them then that's what we'll be doing. An array of interconnected wide diameter PVC pipes with an outlet for sullage hoses will be the go, I think.

Yes Philipn, honey would be good... stake the bastard to a bull ant's nest and cover him in it biggrin

I can't believe old mate just made him pack up and move on after being warned already. Sending him on his way with a slap on the wrist won't change his attitude, probably nothing will, but I bet a hefty fine from the EPA would change his actions.
