I believe the Dept is just adding or upgrading  toilets and designating the camping spots. The camp Hosts have convinced them that making camp grounds into caravan parks with the relevant fees will fail as it will discourage the people interested in NP and nature.

The sad fact of life is that due to numbers of campers some control and facilities are required to protect the environment.

Towns are discovering that tourists are money hence the royalties for regions funding. Now that this funding is being allocated to cam grounds it is good news for us Grey Nomads.

sounds good.....interested to know where the site is at Ravensthorpe. There is a privately owned CP there and an overnight self-contained park area just off the main road near the BP, but it is strictly for self-contained vehicles and I think it is provided by the local Shire. We were there a couple of days ago and there is no mention of camping in the local National Park brochures (even though some do camp in the daytime only rest area off the road between Ravensthorpe and Hopetown)
