as usual i'm after some information, this time about the advantages/disadvantages of whizzbang versus a swing door on a camper van.
I know some people dread staying near a whizzbang and i'm careful about the use of it but just now and again I think a swing door would be easier.
any comments? and of course there's the cost of conversion........
i'd be interested in replies. have just got home after a long trip and planning a 3 month one later. maybe the conversion cost will make my mind up for me!

Reason I say that? Well, not saying you, but there are heaps of people out here in the playground that have no consideration at all for others around them and 'SLAM' the doors instead of trying to just gently closing them. They pull up at nice spot and all get out 'BANG' for each person. Then they dicide to get things out when in place. 'BANG' Oooops, forgot the pillow 'BANG' Oh dear, forgot the dog 'BANG' Johny, can you get the iPad from the front seat of the car please 'BANG'
Ahhh! Peace at last. Nope, need to go to the shop 'BANG' come back from shop 'BANG' Bugger, left my wallet in the car 'BANG'.
I think you get the picture??
Doors where not made to slam shut, weather they be sliding or hinged. IMO.
Geez, I must be grumpy tonight, sorry all.

Dougwe I wreckin you explained that right to the core,well done old sock.
Another thing about these Wizz-Bangers, why is it that they never turn up at a camp site until well after dark, then as well as slamming the sliders a million times, they also either leave their head lights on while running around in the dark looking for fire wood, or they seem to like wearing those bright LED head bands which always seems to flash right in your caravan windows.
"OPPS" getting a bit off the subject here, Here's a bit of advice FREDNME, " DON'T" what ever you do, fit sliding doors to your Camper, unless you don't mind getting an ear full of abuse from other campers.

The greatest advantage of a ''whiz bang'' door is that it makes a lot of noise at 5am in the morning after you've been kept awake half the night by the neighbouring camp noisily p*ssing on.

Nothing wrong with my whizz bang. I am able to close it just on dark and it doesn't get opened again till 7am the next morning.
Parked at Apple Tree Creek a couple of nights ago. A vehicle towing a caravan pulled up along side me quite late and proceeded to bank doors fora good 10-15 minutes before they settled down. There were 2 other whizz bangs back from me in a line who never made a sound all night.
i'm right with the loo but fred needs the occasional wander outside and I leave the door unlatched and just quietly, I hope, slide the door open a night for her. yes, I said "her". nuff said.....
and it's easier to load the shopping. but still good to get your views on a tricky subject. many thanks.

You might find you can't open your doors say for instance in a shopping centre carpark with other vehicles alongside you if you have side opening doors, I would stick with your whizbang. I wouldn't worry about others, as long as you try not to go out of them too much. I have heard just as much noise from caravanners hitching up in the dark in the early hours of the morning, squeaky legs, slamming tug doors loud voices etc so they can't talk.
It all depends on what you have and how considerate you are of those around you many are not. Some whizbang doors need a decent slam to close them properly, better one slam than half a dozen trying to close it quietly but not enough force to close properly. Save your money frednme and keep things the way they are.
