Planning a Trip South

In the first stages of planning a trip south from Port Macquaire NSW at the end of the month.  Looking for the  views of others  of places to visit along the coast suitable for kayak use  and fishing in general beach or bank.  Want to join the coast around Batemans Bay so a way to come off the escapement is required  towing a 16 foot Millard  behind a Pathfinder  diesel, have done Kanga valley and Bulli was thinking come over to the coast from Canberra  not really sure,  we want to get the Adelaide   after  the Great Ocean Road.  Coming  home to NSW  via the inland route  to Hay.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

You must camp on the Lower Glenelg River near Nelson ( just before the Vic/S.A. border. Perfect spot for fishing from Kayak. Great camp spot at The Princes Margaret Rose Caves with lovely private camp sites, good ammenaties and a jetty. It is a National park so no pets. Rod.

Traveled a lot from Canberra to Batemans Bay over the years down the Clyde mountain, with the size van you are towing won't be a problem at all have towed bigger vans down there. It is better than the Brown Mountain from Cooma to Bega, even though that is possible too.

Probably the best way for you to reach Batemans Bay would be to get onto the Hume Highway and take the Picton/Wollongong exit onto the Mt Kiera Road. At the end go over the overpass and turn south to go down Mount Ousley road into Wollongong. The road down Mt Ousley is fairly steep but almost straight and is six lanes with a speed limit of 80km/h. Once at the bottom it is freeway through Wollongong until Albion Rail, after some 5kms it becomes freeway again until just north of Berry. Then follow the road straight through Nowra.

As you have previously been down Bulli Pass you will find Mt Ousley to be like an on-ramp onto a freeway!

From south of Nowra the road becomes two way. The road passes through a number of towns and is generally good, if a little winding and undulating at times, all the way to Batemans Bay.

Past Nowra there are a few places to wet the kayaks - Lake Conjola, Burrill Lake, and a couple of other places that research will bring up. Of course, once at Batemans Bay there is up river on the Clyde.
