Insurance Who to go with?

Hi everyone

Can people please tell me who they have found to be the best to Insure their vans with. I have contacted my RAA but they were dearer than CIL and their contents cover wasn't very much. i have heard that if you join some caravan clubs they can get cheaper insurance but which clubs??? Any help would be appreciated as as you know you have to save as much as you can when your on the road permantely.

Cheers Chris

Try YOUI insurances. Just changed from AAMI saved $85.00  per annum same cover as AAMI better in my pocket than theirs .

Hey KFC, I didn't know you could insure with Wifi smile

I  went through all this last year and in the end stayed with my health fund, general insurance. Works for me.

It is not always what company is the cheapest, have a look at the excess with cheapies.
Lots of people use CIL.. I use Ken Tame and find them very good, only down side you have to be a member of the CMCA and insure both car and van

Hi Chris,

If you join the Campervan Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA)then you get a discount policy from Ken Tame Insurance. They do a combined car and caravan policy as I understand it. There has been some previous discussion whether this is a good deal or not hmm Perhaps you can search on here for it.

I have a Motorhome and it is insured with them as is my other vehicle. I am happy with them and thought the value was good.smile They are brokers and the actual policy is with a large regular insurance company. You could Google them or I could supply some contact details if you wish.

I object to being asked to pay twice the price for essentially the same product.

Wesfarmers insurance (WFI) have a very good reputation in rural areas.

my choice

hope this helps.

Laurie.

I'm with APIA. Good discounts if you have multiple policies (car, house, contents). Many companies do not do fully imported Vans.

I suspect that we only find whether we got a good deal from our chosen insurance Co after we make a claim and get it settled.
That is a tough way to find out. I spoke to two parties who had claims settled to their satisfaction by Ken Tame and decided to take the peace-of-mind option. So far, so good.

Westfarmers insurance is now part of the NRMA group and is the company Coles use for their insurance product I got very good premium for the house and contents and 1 car from Coles but at that time they didn't insure caravans so I stayed with GIO for the tug and van
Cheers

The tow vehicle and caravan should be insured with the same company. It could save a lot of problems with a claim.

Just be careful with YOUI insurance,a lot of people have been dudded and panel beaters absolutely hate them. They are cheap for a reason.

Be sure to read the policy carefully and then decide whether to go with them or not.

We are with CIL. Its not the cheapest but it does offer extra cover, in particular the cover that will either pay for you to travel back to collect the van or transport it back to your place and good cover for hotel costs etc. Many others we looked at didn't offer this, meaning if the van can't be repaired for weeks/months and you have to go home you have to pay yourself to go back to get it or get it sent to you, a real cost if its on the other side of the country. We have made 1 claim and CIL was very easy to deal with and paid the claim in full with no arguement and no rise in the next years premium.

We stayed with CIL as APIA were the same price. MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE CLAIMED FROM CIL stated they had nothing but the best service, easy to deal with.

So in essence we are paying a bit more for "peace of mind" if the worst happens,,, not too worried about small stuff just covering the investment of $80,000 odd dollars.

The discount companies are there for a reason,,, you can work it out I'm sure,,, real life stories abound,,, as someone said just talk to repairers.

I sounded out youi earlier this year and found that their excess was too high. I have been with Ken Tame for the last 7 years but thought that there maybe better options but for me there wasn't.

Also doesn't the policy from Ken Tame give you 1000k's of towing if you breakdown.

have always insured with CIL and found them great - had a storm claim a couple of years back - did not impace NCB or premium ... only insurer I would otherwise go with is NRMA - have everything with them and get a great multi policy discount - never had a problem - only real thing is they don't insure motorhomes and that is what we have.
