BIRDSVILLE

There are thousands of caravans camped out at in Birdsville for the races.   I can't believe the are no Grey Nomads here.

If you are here, I can be found at the Markets near the Information Centre.

We have an opal stall called " Alladins Opals"   Come on over.  The kettles on.

Just a couple of miles Jules, just go down the road, turn left and then straight up. Its just down at the end of the road. Won't take you too long.

No rain eventuated but cyclone conditions with the wind. A lot of the market stalls didn't operate today.

If you see a couple of older guys working with Veolia cleaning up and sucking out the portaloos say Hi from Plodnalong. I did that job last year but am over in NZ for a year. Back on the road in mid December.

The Birdsville races are a must for your bucket list. We had a fantastic time. Those people really know how to party.
I was worried about getting home again, but made it with no problems or damage. And I didn't have a big 4x4 either. Just a little old Ford Transit van with regular light truck tyres.

The road, after the rain and all the vehicles was a lot worse than going in but still OK. considering the no. of vehicles that used it.(tens of thousands I would think. No, I'm not joking) Really Rough in some places and I was happy to hit the tar after about 260ks of dirt and rocks.

You should really come equipped to be self sufficient. The two shops don't or can't cope with the influx. Nowhere to eat,
(the pub doesn't serve meals over race week) unless you go to the markets where there was a pizza van, chinese food van and a Wendy's. They sold out completely by Monday.

I am sitting on the top of a mountain at present on an opal mine just out of Eromanga and a long way from home. No phone or TV and internet is intermittent. Still remote but beautiful country. Heading home in about two weeks.

Sound like you had a great time Mel, happy for you. Say hi to Jules and Norm, and the dogs, especially Miss Molly. Still in Victoria.
