A survey by CH9 shows that the top RH flag was most popular and the spiral one was the least popular.

Yep, I agree with top right but I like bottom left as well as to me it recognises the Maori Kiwi a little clearer. IMO.

Still on the flag topic but Aussie.

A bit like this one does as a alternative Aussie flag.  I would proudly fly this. I wonder the legality of flying it now????

I think it would be just considered an unofficial flag Doug, much like the boxing kangaroo one is.  Here is another;

It will be interesting to see how the vote goes and which NZ flag wins out of the 4, and later that flag pitted against the current NZ flag in another vote to see which one the majority prefer.

Apparently the NZ Fern was used by the Maori's to mark their paths through the scrub during the day, they turned them upside down so the silvery powdery surface underneath reflected in the moonlight to guide them home in the dark if they came home after nightfall.

Indeed the one on the right side top I like
but than what would I know, I'm still walking on wooden clogsbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I Like that unofficial flag as well Vic

But I think it would upset many that fought under our flag if we would change it

Cheers John

Gday...

Bottom left for me

NZ.JPG

The red/white/blue of the "Commonwealth", fern for NZ, and black for the indigenous race. Has it all I reckon.

Cheers - John

Yeh, I won't get into that John, Ozzies fought under several different flags, but they were fighting for Australia, not the flag.  If ever it gets to a flag change for Oz (which I doubt) I suppose the population will decide, could be an expensive exercise if the Kiwi one is anything to gauge it by.   Best to just watch the Kiwi's and see what transpires with them, if they decide to stick with the status quo then they have spent a heck of a lot of money for nothing (other than the population deciding to remain with the current flag).  If they do stay with the current flag I can't see an alternative getting up for a very long time if ever.

Rocky makes some good points on one version of the proposed flags, never thought of it in that way. smile

Just replace the Union Jack on our flag with the Koori flag. I do like the one Doug posted. All the right colours and symbols. I think Australians would like to fight under a unique flag, not one with the Union Jack on it. Not all Commonwealth countries have the Union Jack on their flag any more and NZ looks like doing the same thing. Will be interesting to see what flag is chosen and if it eventually replace the current one.

One artist said once that a flag needs to represent the country with its colours and symbols, not be confused with another country and must be able to be drawn by primary school kids.

Trouble is the Koori flag does not represent Torres Straits Islanders or have the National colours of green and gold, the boomerang one does, there are some that say no particular group should be represented in a flag, it should be for all of us (if it ever comes to a flag change that is).

Here are a few different types being bandied around;

Does NZ have the equivalent of our two ensigns (red & white)? If so, wonder if there will be new ones?

Great pictures there Vic, thanks for posting them,

I don't think you could get a better design, that would depict ones thoughts about their Pride,

and in some cases, their sacrifices for their own Country.

That fern/soldier tattoo is very clever and says a lot. I've never considered a tattoo as too many times I've seen them they are a sign of something fashionable or topical at the time the tattoo was done. However, that one says a lot and I don't think it would "date".

Hi KJ, do you know if their are other NZ Ensigns (eg Navy etc?). confuse

Re the tattoos yes, they are very clever, I wonder who designed them. smile

I envy the Kiwi's pride in their country, leaves ours for dead in a lot of respects.   The cars I see running around in the suburbs with the Kiwi fern on them here in WA (and no doubt in the rest of Oz) look great. smile

G'day Vic,  "Yes" N.Z. has a number of other Ensigns, a different one but similar for each of the armed forces, air force, navy, and army,

here is a link which explains each flag..............

Thanks KJ, that's a great link.   It will be interesting to see what they do with the others if they adopt a new flag in the second vote they have on the future of their flag.    I think in one of the articles I read on the possible change they said something about other existing flags will not change, but who know.    Anyway, all up to the Kiwi's, but I for one will be watching the outcome with great interest. smile

Yes, I will also be watching very closely to this out come,

as I have already said, as I've been out of kiwi-land for such a long time, I am unable to cast a vote on this issue,

So, Them other kiwi Blokes had better pick the right flag "AH"

Here a another couple of unofficial Oz ones that are floating around, have to admit they are "different"....

Just found out, apparently they are based on a cricket ball (spinner) and here's silly me thinking they were based on LSD or Ice....wink

some of you are cutting Aussies short when it comes to being patriotic !!

We moved from NZ 18 years ago, had the lobotomy and now Aussie citizens.

What we still notice is the number of Aussie flags flying in peoples yards and the numbers that attend various memorial services for defence staff killed in action. NZ schools don't fly the flag - we do here.

Kiwis over here may have the silver fern stickers on their cars - but not back in NZ, nor the private flags.

I think Aussies are much more patriotic - and lets not get into netball, cricket, hockey, Union and League LOL

I hadn't really thought about it ,until you mentioned it Bruce,  "Yes" you are right, I also had noticed the Aussie flag flying in many places over here,  a Caravan Park is one place That stands out, the number of people who carry the flag with them, and make sure that it is the first thing that is raised after the Awning is pulled out.
