Power Bill

We can now understand why so many people are selling up and hitting the road full time,

Today the Postie delivered a shock to the system, Our two monthly Power Bill had arrived,

thought the last Bill was a bit steep at $ 464.00  but this one really rocked my socks,  $ 727.00

On top of that, we now only get a fortnights notice to pay. the gov't do give us a " cost of living" deduction on this bill,

Aa huge reduction of $ 2.71,

Thanks Gov't Bloke, that really helps !!!

I see on the back of the bill the power rates have gone up again, from 22.360 cents to 23.366 cents per unit, on top of this they also add on a supply charge of $ 2.05 at the old rate and another $ 24.02 on the new rate which came into effect on the 01/07/2015, then after all that there is the un-forgiving GST, adding another $ 66.16 just to top it all off. #%**$%#

Anyone want to buy a house ?????

Ours are 3 monthly in the NT & with the build up starting I'm bracing for $3000 to $4000 power bills, cost us on average between $40.00 & $60.00 per day for our little 3 bedroom house depending on the season.

Solar HWS with no booster & super efficient inverter splits but they do get a work out in wet season as you just couldn't sleep without them.

I make fortnightly payments in advance or we would be sitting in the dark.

Go gas or solar water heating. Check the hot water thermostat..
If you have a smart meter and no off peak timer ..
It would pay to have timer fitted so heater doesn't come on peak tarrif ...
Air conditioner is way more efficient at heating than bar or fan heater..

Try NSW my rate is 32.cent kwh so your 22 .3 sounds fine to me   I found out  they don't actually read the meter each time you are billed  but do an estimate so one bill will be high and the next much lower it's another scam to get your money into their piggy bank and  onto the overnight money market  where they collect the interest until they have to give back the basic  overcharge  on the next bill.  When we lost the Carbon Tax ha ha my bill never went down let alone I used less power , explain that.  What happen the base rate went up and supply charges went through the roof ,hence no reduction.  When question they may as well said Suck It Up Princess for all the help they offered

To many suppliers but not enough in the pie  to satisfy the share holders bottom line expectations  so  the industry is  bleeding money down the S bend  and we have to make it up.

Take solar generation you generate it  sell it to the grid for 6 cents KWH and buy it back at 32 cent KWH.   Someone please explain why I'm  suppose to consider myself a winner.  Greatest scam the Government of the day ever came up with and they had some real beauties .

Thanks for some good advise there,

Here in the West  the charges for gas to going through the roof as well,

We have Evap air conditioning in the house, good when the humidity is low but useless when high, and this costs a few bucks to run as well,

it looks like the beer fridge in the back shed will have to go, and maybe we will have to make do with only one freezer as well,

I see that the Gov't will be selling Solar panels here shortly, I bet there's a catch in this, probably be the end of any rebate for supplying power to the grid.

I am still thinking, how lucky some people are with a mobile home, no water bill, land rates, massive power bills, not to mention on going maintenance on the house,

We had a power failure here last Sunday, that is half the house lost power, we still had lighting but that was all, rang an electrician who was here with-in the hour, took all of 5 minutes to replace a fuse backing which had burnt out ,and walked away with $ 340.00 of our hard earned cash.

The Missis has an answer every time when things get expensive,  her answer,,,,,, " Out on the Street "

Hmmm Don't think I would make much at my age.disbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbelief

During last year we were away from home for 2 months in Outback NSW. We covered all our bills before we went. The next gas & electricity accounts we received were as costly as if we had stayed at home. confuseThey showed that our usage had been the same during the period we were away as when at home. B*LL SH*T!furious We had all gas & electric appliances turned off & unplugged while we were away. furious In a word AGL! furious We changed providers & this year when we have been away we come home to a way smaller bill due to less usage.smile

I'm a solo and live in NSW and have my gas and electricity with AGL. My last bill for gas for 3 months over winter was $113 and that included using a gas heater at times, gas hot water and cooking. My electricity for the same period using the aircon. at times for heating and using my clothes dryer about twice a week was $93 so combined that is $206.

Our energy costs were causing quite a bit of concern so we considered the alternate options and have installed a 3.75 kW solar system which we believe will pay for itself in about three years but could be much quicker if the NSW energy suppliers were a bit more realistic,
At present they charge me 28 cents per kW used, and for power I feed into the network they pay me just 6 cents per kW which is really pathetic have not received a bill since solar power was connected but expect it to be reduced by around fifty percent.

I fitted a 1.5kw solar system 4.5 years ago when we built this new house.

Since then I have not had to pay a power bill and I am $600 odd in credit.

I very much regret having the gas HWS and gas cooker installed.

The system has way paid for itself already.

Cheers Neil
