installing frig water tank

have just started to reinstall the  frig in caravan the previous owners had removed it and where  trying to build a  room for the toilet where it was

at the moment  its sitting in the middle of the  van     now want to put the frig back in where it should be

appears to run fine on 240   but not sure on gas , is there a way  to connect gas  bottle and regulator  to it while "free " and try it ?  would this be safe ? i dont want to reinstall it then find its not working

also was thinking of adding extra insulation to the top and sides of frig   ( just gluing it on ?  ) would this be safe , will keep it away from heat sources at back

also tried to fill tank the other day and water wouldn't go in  but noticed that water was leaking from around the metal cover to the tank later  so might just be full tank ?!   also hand pump not working but read how to "grease " the  pump so will try that first

worst case how do you remove the water tank or check it for leaks blocked pipes / vents  etc ?

will be asking lots more questions  as van needs lots of work

unless you know about soapy water leak testing already and can adapt a flexible line to a copper flare... let someone else test your fridge... rock around to a plumber... he will do it in a few minutes to see that it lights etc... come back a few hours later and see if his beer is cold.

Water tanks, lie on ya back under the van there will be at least three pipes... a bigger one in, a little one on the end at the bottom out, to the pump and a breather... the breather will be usually on one end right up at the top... might just be a short pipe sticking out (& filled in with a wasp nest)

Loosen the hose to the pump, water will run out all over you.... wont hurt to drain it and then re fill. There may also be a hex plug in one end along the bottom, that will be a drain plug.... dont over tighten it when you put it back in... easy enough to strip plastic threads/bolts... some plumbers thread tape is worth using when you fit screw/threaded fittings.

Hope this helps
