Rig rolls on Cunningham Hwy

Nomads airlifted to hospital

TWO grey nomads were airlifted to hospital after their rig rolled on a Queensland highway. The Victorian couple's Holden Rodeo tow vehicle and Windsor caravan ended up in a ditch at the side of the Cunningham Highway about 30km east of Warwick. Emergency workers struggled to free a man in his 70s who was trapped in the mangled wreckage. He suffered suspected arm and shoulder injuries while his wife, who is in her 60s, had suspected abdominal and chest injuries. The Toowoomba RACQ CareFlight rescue helicopter flew the couple to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition. Witnesses told police the rig had been travelling at 100k/hr before it suddenly jackknifed and veered off the road.

At least they're still alive to tell the tale. Lucky!
As we always say it could happen to any one of us at any time.
Hopefully it doesn't.

Happens far too frequently, always the same reaction, tut tut, just bad luck, not so, there is always a reason.

I suspect most cases come down to poor preparation, i.e. inexperience, inattention, overloaded or poorly loaded, traveling too fast or braking to avoid an animal.

Most of these 4WD towing caravan mishaps are avoidable.wink
