Climate Change

On the ABC there is a series called Orbit , watched  No  2 today  then  went on to I View and watched No 1.  A real insight into how the plant or at least the  orbit of the planet plays a big part in what we experience on the ground as weather patterns .  Pity those climate change doomsayers had'nt watched the program before giving their rusted on view of the worlds atmosphere   .  I do recommend watching  the series.  nothing to lose but a lot of creditable  info to be gained   to inform those of us who want to know what's on  both sides of the coin rather than the view of a few passionate but sometimes misinformed  individuals pushing doom gloom and destruction as the only view to be heard by the wider media .

97% of the world's climate scientists can hardly be described as "a few passionate but sometimes misinformed  individuals pushing doom gloom and destruction"

Agree wombat 280 very good and Unbiased program, smile What really surprised me is that it is on the ABC, !! where most of the Propaganda originates from

-------------------------------------------------------------------

WOMBAT 280 WROTE --  I do recommend watching  the series.  nothing to lose but a lot of creditable  info to be gained   to inform those of us who want to know what's on  both sides of the coin

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

D and D WROTE ---  97% of the world's climate scientists can hardly be described as "a few passionate but sometimes misinformed  individuals pushing doom gloom and destruction"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

D and D ... If you believe those 97% figures you need to do a lot more [ unbiased research, ?? Why don't you just watch this series with an open Mind, and compare facts, figures and Science ??  from a show that is Not contaminated with Government funding or agenda's ?

In response to your post.

I saw a report last week by some of those 97% climate Scientists who preach doom and gloom wanted to return the atmosphere to 1750 levels of CO2. ( So called Acidification of the oceans by greenhouse gases) Next buzzword for the doom and gloom merchants. Acidification of the oceans.

Strange that the Australian Govt and a few others have been drilling cores in the Antarctic to huge depths to check the  gas composition of the atmosphere over thousands of years. Strange that levels haven't changed much. The CSIRO and the Antarctic division have some very solid credentials and not prone to publishing wrong data.  Scaremongering....... I think so.

I don't think any sane person would say we don't need to change and we do need to reduce our pollution of the planet.

Next and final point, isn't our so called Australian self proclaimed climate expert the same one who said Sydney would have a permanent drought by 2010, run out of water to drink, resevoirs empty and we needed all those desalination plants that cost billions which are now mothballed.

Climate change is real... but it's also a natural phenomena. We're not helping the situation any, but the real problem and root cause of all the problems humanity faces today is the out of control global population.

There a lots of good un-biased shows on Climate Change. What some of them say is that you have to be skeptical about some of the naysayers as they are actually making a living out of naysaying. None of the experts disagree about climate change, it is happening. It what is causing is and what (if anything) we can do about it. We will just have to move out of our comfort zone, which is not necessarily that bad.

If you want to see a town that is in real trouble, look up Phoenix, Arizona. It's town like Phoenix (& Las Vegas) that we need to bring back to sustainable reality.

With the current cold spell in Southern Vic for last few months, I say bring on global warming.     biggrin

There is a sign at Mungo National Park explaining that the lakes dried up as a result of "Climate Change" that was 17000 years ago so it would seem it has been going on for a long.

Yes it has... remember a thing called The Ice Age? But the debate is over whether or not we have any significant effect on Climate Change.

Firstly let me say we do need to clean up our act we are way to much of a one use throw it away society.
My bone to pick is science tells us we have had two ice ages already, neither of which humans caused.
Go figure out what did n let me know please.

Pro climate folk keep rattling on about methane produced by cows well animals of all types I guess, but I have never heard them say anything about the methane produced by humans, and I'll put my hand up and admit I produce my fair share of that.
Are there far to many humans on this planet?

Human nature to save a $ they drive past several petrol stations to buy petrol for $0.02 a litre less but fail to see the three litres they burnt to get to the cheaper fuel.
Go figure that one out n let me know.

I probably could go on but I have stated I won't ridicule others opinions on here
So I will simply say I will have to agree to disagree with some posts here and agree with others.

I am doing my bit I have a 5 kW solar system on my roof putting back in to the grid, don't know how much green house gases were produced to make the system though,
so have I added to the problem or am I helping it,
heck I don't know, so may be I should have a red and think that one through,
wait I don't drink red, so I'll have to have a beer instead.

Our most precious comodity is drinkable water. Of all the services you have to your house (gas, electricity etc.) the one that you cannot live without is water. All the others you can make compromises. Predictions are that future world wars will be fought over drinkable water, not oil. I think this is already true in Africa. Remember that oil was discovered in the Middle East trying to find water. Water is being polluted and used at an astonishing rate. As someone noted, its our throw-away mentality that is causing our issues. Manage our recycling, garbage disposal, renewable energy, and water and any effect of humans on climate will be reduced.

We have all become soft when it comes to temperature, or at least the Yanks have. We tend to heat our buildings to 22C. The Yanks like 24-25. Given that their outside ambient temperature is colder than ours, the energy to heat that extra few degrees is massive. In places like Phoenix, there is the opposite problem. The a/c pumps out huge amounts of heat aggravating the hot outside temperatures and creating a mini extra hot climate in Arizona. And then everyone wants green grass so extraordinary amounts of water are waster on that.

There has been so much ground water pumped out of the water tables that Edwards Air-Force strip has sunk about 8m.

The Yanks keep telling everyone what needs to be done but they are so bad themselves that others find it hard to follow. However, some of the best technology to save the world is actually coming out of the US.

Yes, water and food are going to be the problems in the future, but, our Governments, of all persuasions, love the mining dollar so much they are permitting fracking in our agriculture areas. I am no bloody greeny, but, am very concerned about the way we are going....overseas sales of our land, instead of 90 year leases bugs me too. By the way, from 1350 to 1850 Europe had a little Ice Age where thousands died of starvation, and Greenland was depopulated.

Not only the little ice age but apparently the islands that have shorelines "disappearing" in the Indian & Pacific oceans aren't quite what they seem. Apparently falling tides in the 1960s-80s exposed more shoreline & the locals subsequently built on them. Now the seas are claiming the shoreline back.

Also, I wonder about Port Philip Bay and how much damage is caused by tides over time. Along Sorrento-Rosebud area, beach is being reclaimed. From Portarlington to Queenscliffe the sand is increasing somewhat. Seems that tides are moving the sand from one side of the bay to the other. Is this something humans are causing? No idea.

There are a lot people out who are making a very comfortable living out of gloom and doom preaching about climate .it is unfortunate that they got their story out to the masses before all the facts were in and those who now disagree with their sometimes unfounded hysterical findings will never be heard because of the mega bucks invested in alternative energy sources . Like all academic research it boils down to publish or perish. No published papers no research grants = no job

There is a case worth noting where an Uni undergrad wrote up and posted to the net his end of term paper hypothesising on environmental issues ( Climate Change) it was picked up off the net by a pollie and became the basis an official party policy document. Took over three years before it was discovered that it hadn't even been peer reviewed by which time the UN had even quoted in it's findings as factual , to late to pull it back by then , so much for creditable research.

Such is the world today with the mountains of info put out there by anyone with a laptop that we should take the warning that what we read /quote as factual maybe more our desire to believe those who go to print first and scare the Christ out of us the most. Take time to check the credentials of the author in those particular fields of study is always a good move . A case in point would be the scientist who said Sydney would be in drought and out of potable water , not really his particular field of study, none the less has a comfortable govt job for life and a fat cat salary.

My life is far to short now to really sacrifice any more grey matter postulating on the possible outcomes in 100 or so years time.
