This post has to do with number plates again (sorry).I am a bit of a do it yourselfer if you can sort of person ,and was wondering if any of you out there have relocated your number plate holders down to comply with rego rules that that seem to be the same in every state.ie 1300mm to the top of the plate, im going to go from the 7 pin plug at the front of caravan thru chassis and out the back end onto a bracket ,set at the rite height to comply with regulations.I would like to know what others have done ,and if at all possible maybe a foto or 2 as well. THANKYOU JOHN... ps will make up a bracket to either go on the spare wheel or make a new bracket to fit on the rear bar .

Well John, you didn't get much of a response. Maybe not many people move their number plates.
I moved mine from its normal position at the back lower right corner of the Jayco, because when I fitted the box on the bumper, it no longer allowed the plate to be visible from 45 degrees sideways. Simplest fix was to put on the back of the box. Since I only needed one light for the plate (the taillights and blinkers weren't obscured) I tapped into the wires behind the number plate light and from there ran wires to the new light. The old light still works, just lights up nothing. Seems to me a lot of trouble to go from the plug, unless of course your wires are hidden in the back wall. Even in that case I'd be looking for them under the van somewhere. My bracket was a piece of aluminium which I think was originally part of a road sign. I love recycling.

Our rego plate is 1.42 meters high. I rang the van makers and it does not have to be
altered because the 1.3 law was not in at the time of manufacture.
Much the same as my 1965 Land Rover that does not have seat belts. They weren't brought in in Qld until 1967.
This may only be for Qld. registered vehicles though.
Unless your van is fairly old your manufacturer is giving you the brush off :

13.31.1.1. provision must be made for mounting a registration plate (as shown in Figure 1) to be affixed to the rear of the vehicle so that no part of such plate is more than 1,300 mm from the ground.
Our plate is too high, rang van manufacturer said bring it in at no cost to us 2011 model. They are in Vic we live 400 kms away fortunately planning to travel that way within the next month. Wonder if we get booked who pays the fine.
When you see tugs and rigs with so many non compliant fittings that the authorities seem to ignore unless it's topic of the month in the squad room a number plate height seems small bickies . Next time your on the road ,in NSW at least, just note how many vehicles are running driving lights above their standard headlights or running fog lights in broad daylight when there is no fog dust or smoke, no one polices that section of motor traffic act .
