Power System

Hi All,

I recently bought a campervan that has a solar power system including deep cycle batteries, voltage control, inverter and automatic charger.

Should I assume that the batteries are also connected to the vehicles alternator and therefore charging the batteries when I'm driving, in addition to the charge from the solar panel? There are a total of three batteries next to the inverter.

Apologies in advance for my ignorance on this topic.

thanks

Unless your tow vehicle has been specifically modified and or wired to charge the camper van batteries my opinion would be no it is not charging the batteries while you are traveling.

In this situation it would be best to get both to an auto electrician and get it checked out proffesionally.

Cheers,
Tom

Easy way to find out.

Connect the plug from the vehicle to the camper and check battery voltage.

Start vehicle and check battery voltage at the same points on the battery.

IF voltage is up it's charging from alternator.

Isn't a campervan a van (like a delivery van), that has been setup as a camper, and not a towed vehicle? If so, it is likely to be set up that way, but not a definite. Easy way to check is like Baz said, measure the house battery voltage while the van is running. It should be around 14V hopefully a bit higher.
