First post here from a long time lurker. I'm looking to put an antenna on our vehicle to try and extend the range of our Mobile broadband modem. Most of our trips are up,and down the West Coast so am I safe to assume that a higher DB rating antenna would be the way to go?
We run a Telstra 3G hot spot on the standard fibreglass UHF antenna & last trip from Darwin to Albany we had internet in area's where the phones were showing "no service". Were trying out the new 3G-4GX one this year on the same run.
Local bloke recommended not going "too high" in the Db gain as the signal would have a smaller pattern or something along those lines. I looked at the YAGI antennas for more distance but decided against it as a day or two without internet is nice occasionally.

Have seen them fitted neatly on top of the wineguard. Could be the way to go. Easy installation down through the roof into a cupboard with fittings out of sight. Use plenty of sika or silicone around the entry point.
