I have been missing a bit as I had a health scare and with no symptoms, just a slightly higher liver count picked up in a routine blood test it was discovered I had a massive growth on my left kidney. After a couple of weeks of stress and several scans it was discovered that only the kidney was involved so the answer was to get it out. I had that done just over a week ago at the wonderful Ballarat Base Hospital and cannot believe how well I am recovering. I am now on 3mths sick leave from work and will then convert to long service leave of which I have about 8mths. So it is now onward and upward for me, I will be monitored every 3mths with scans and will be free to start travelling as soon as I get solar panels on the roof and anything else I need to free camp.
Safe travels to you all and I can't wait catch up with friends and to meet new friends.

Judy - thought there was something up with you - hadn't seen you on for a bit. Growth on kidney, wow, and no symptoms is a worry, never know what is going on in our bodies do we. Lucky for routine blood tests - I have one every year, so far so good. Glad you are doing well, Ballarat Base is a nice hospital I have been told, so enjoy your time there.
Wow, you will be able to do some travelling with that time up your sleeve, will you slip into retirement after the long service leave?
Take care - see you on the wallaby!

Great to hear you are recuperating so well at home Judy, keep resting up for now till you get the ok from your doctor, then it's all go.
You should be able to move into your apartment soon as well, exciting.

Hi Judy,
Glad you are recovering well, I had one kidney removed in 2002 (donated) and still firing well. The remaining kidney enlarges to carry on the work of two, many people only have one kidney (including transplant recipients, although they have to take anti rejection drugs) and some are born with only one.
I knew of one case where a lady with a growth on one kidney had the kidney removed and when the growth was tested and proved not to be malignant, it was cut off and the kidney transplanted to another person, with her permission.
Although you will feel fine well before then, total recover is said to be about 12 months. Checks of your kidney function are important in the meantime as per your post, they can be done by your GP as well via a blood clinic.
If you check the link below my signature, there are some good links on my website on kidney health. Feel free to join it and add your story or like here you can just read the threads and links etc.
