Installed Windows 10

Anyone else installed Windows 10

I installed mine this morning took about 1.5 hours to complete and required no intervention on my part.

With the small amount of time I have spent using it so far, very happy with it, many improvements and Internet Explores replacement seems fast and stable and I feel this will be the best Windows so far, lots of little changes but very similar to Win 7.

I like the way the programs list is now grouped in alphabetic order so much easier to locate a program.

Cheers

David

If you have Win 7 or 8.1 a couple of months back a small grey windows icon will have appeared in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, if you clicked on it, there was the offer to register for Win 10 available after 29th July.
If you have that icon click on it now and it will start the update, I think it was down loaded as an update during the last couple of days if you had registered, the install then became available after the 29th July.
This free update is not available for XP or Vista. Further info would be available if you Google "Win 10"

That just appears to be a rumor, there appears to be no evidence at this stage that this will happen.

The upgrade is free for one year. After that, anyone who hasn't upgraded will not be able to upgrade for free. anyone who has, will not be charged ever.

I upgraded my Windows 8.1 today using the ISO download on my spare PC. Not game to upgrade my main machine just yet. I was too impatient to wait for it to be delivered via the update process.

it looks OK so far, but I will reserve judgement.......

This computer is currently running windows7 home SP1 .. All files are present that are needed as stated, yet my unit is not presenting with the windows 10 update icon  (as are many others) ..

Having exhausted all tests to ascertain the problem, I will merely bide my time now to see what the short term will find ..

My other puter is running 8.1 and its just waiting to be advised when to upgrade .. must be some sort of pecking order !

Noticed today the Win 10 icon has disappeared from my task bar, which I'm assuming is because it is now officially released. I'll leave it for a little while before looking at upgrading, maybe wait till I'm at my sister's for Christmas where I can use her ADSL connection - I believe the upgrade is about 3 gigabytes which would take a big chunk out of my 8GB monthly allowance, notwithstanding Telstra's up and down wireless 'service'.

I have a 100GB/mth, but today Telstra doubled it to 200GB/mth (every month) at no charge.  I only use about 15GB/mth.   Perhaps they want me to get Foxtel or download their movies.

I wonder if my peripherals will need new drivers for Win10  ...  and if they are available.  Also will all my programs run on Win10.

I'll look into that after Win10 has been in general use for a bit before I even think about changing from Win7.

I had problems trying to update to win 8.1 as Toshiba uses a bulk product number that is not recognised by the update. Have to update from the Toshiba site for win 10.

Be aware that win10 doesn,t like older wireless modems.. Spent 7 hrs with telecoma (Telstra) trying to get my wireless going to no avail. They don,t know either.

More reason to look closely at the overpriced Apple stuff rather that putting up with all these issues when you upgrade Microsoft operating systems.

Don't be too hard on those lovely Telstra people ..  They have just upgraded for free my 100G of fast cable broadband to 200G.  All I need now is the latest modem so that I can use their National WiFi system when on the road.

Hi Ian, just a thought, it is much easier to read posts in lower case than all caps. Hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, and welcome to the forum.

Evening Ian, welcome to the forum.

I disagree with your thoughts re Windows 8.1, I made the transition from XP to 8.1 about 18 months ago, took me all of an hour or so to become familiar with it, if you were familiar with previous Windows operating systems everything was there, not at all confusing, just took a little thought to work it out.

Have just upgraded to 10, once again no big deal, was up and running within minutes of completing the download.

Anyone who is reasonably proficient with previous Microsoft offerings will find Windows 10 a piece of cake.smile

My thoughts too.  I missed Win 8 and that seems to be a good thing from what I've heard.  I bought a Surface Pro earlier this year that has Win 8.1.  No dramas there, using the alternative desktop it felt very familiar.

I just updated to the free Win 10 and the installation was easy & the transition for me very painless.

I can't see what the fuss is about personally.

Cheers Neil

That is Kodi, our beloved 4.5 year old Golden Retriever who we sadly lost, only one overnight stop from home on our last trip a few weeks ago.

He got sick during the night and passed away within 45 minutes of waking me.  Needless to say we were devastated.

Don't feel bad for asking, we will never forget him as we have many photos to remember the joyous times we had with him.

Cheers Neil

What to say! I feel for you Neil.

We are dog lovers and have lost a couple of our much loved mates under similar circumstances, devastating.

We currently have a three year old golden lab, she's very much a part of the family.

I have installed W10 on my desktop pc and so far so good, my tablet doesn't seem to be able to upload it, not sure why, I think it has 8.1 on it at the moment.    I am a bit concerned about the privacy issues W10 is said to have though, I hope they can be resolved.

Sorry to hear about Kodi Neil and Lynne, here are a couple of shots with some of the mob with Kodi at Popanyinning and Pumphrey's Bridge a couple of years ago.   RIP Kodi.

Not really privacy issues Vic, simply a matter of being aware that the defaults need to be changed during installation, pretty straight forward.

Nimrod posted this link https://fix10.isleaked.com/ in another thread on privacy, it explains exactly what needs to be done.

One thing I have lost is my free offline card games, I don't seem to be able to get them back, not sure why.   I am not interested in online games or retail versions.

Hold everything !   SWMBO showed me how to load new Games (free offline) from those available on Windows 10, so all happy again!

The games are much improved to the old ones I had, eg; in Card Games, if a card cannot be played it is shaded out instead of getting a pop up saying you can't play it after trying to.....smile
