It seems someone in their "wisdom has decided that a A frame is a vehicle modification. Dept Transport WA now require that all A frame combinations have Dept approval and meet ALL the following conditions.
1) Motor home must be 3.5 times heavier than towed vehicle towing capacity.
2) Towed vehicle maximum weight 2000kg. (except for graders where no limit)
3) A frame must have a plate stating both vehicle registrations.
4) A frame must have an engineering compliance plate fitted.
5) Only licensed installers can fit an A frame. Papers to be carried in vehicle at all times
6) Fitted A frame must be inspected by a separate vehicle.
I am advised that this legislation has been the same for over 10 years, (just interpretation changed, my words)
Thought I should put this info up as I am now just going through this whole process now after 10 years A framing. I am sure many other will get caught out the same as me sometime soon.
What does the towed vehicle's towing capacity have to do with anything? Are you sure that should not read towed vehicle's weight (in some form)?
Sorry didn't proof read well enough, just missed some words. Not towed vehicle towing capacity but rather "regardless of the towing vehicles towing capacity".

key part of the issue is the State of perpetual excitement... The Left Hand state government(s) have taken it upon themselves to go it alone and not join the rest of the country who are adopting (cant think of proper term) the same legislation for road rules to make life the same regardless of borders.... but not them....
Often the trick is a major hurdle if you are visiting from a more enlightened state...
(have a look at Log Books/driving hours/club registration etc as well....)
The sun rises later over there, perhaps that's the reason.?
