There are number of house sitting sites, some require an annual membership fee, some charge the home owner a fee for finding a house sitter, some pay the sitters a weekly rate, some sitters expect to be paid. We do not support the last option. There is an argument as to why a house sitter should be paid - do the maths, using an arbitrary figure of $30 per day per pet, you are saving the owner some coin.
If you google 'house sitter australia' you will get plenty of options for you to make an informed judgement.

Hello MadCart. We have been house sitting since we were around the Perth area in January last year.  We have picked up most of our "sits" through the free classifieds on this website, however, pay $55.00 per annum for HouseCarers.com  They are the only other site we use, and consider if we only get one sit per year out of this site, that it equates to about two nights in a paid caravan park.

Our ratio of sits from each site would probably  be 75/25.

In respect to being paid for a sit, we do not expect payment, however, have been paid in food (freezer full of meat), fruit and vegetables in season and eggs.  The savings while house sitting outway the expenses of being on the road.  When we sit for a month, we only fuel up the Patrol every two weeks, if we were travelling for that month, we would fuel up at least every second day.

I do, however, believe that some farm sits will pay for extra work involved while house sitting.  We are heading towards a house sit next week, where we will look after house animals, but if we want there is some paid work for us as well.

We are "full time" Nomads with a base camp in Central West of NSW. We have a profile on "aussiehousesitters" and spend over 60% of our time house sitting. We pay $65- pa and cannot keep up with demand. We are booked to 3rd February 2016. Currently in Perth (Ardross) minding a very up market property just up from the Swan River. We finished 2 weeks at North Beach (Northern Perth suburb) that was a couple of streets back from the beach. In all we will spend a month in Perth utilizing the utilities and facilities of homeowners the van is at Advent Park @ $3 a day and I will only need to half fill the Cruiser with diesel for the month at $1.25litre.

Sitting by the gas fire knowing that we do not have to pay the bill.

Just knocked back a 2 week sit at Harvey Bay over Xmas/New Year as we are booked.

+++++++++++++If anyone is interested I have a 2/3 week sit August/Sept at Wyee (Central Coast NSW) 2 dogs homeowners holiday accommodation and room for a van for a good mate. Again we are booked and cannot help.

PM  me if interested.

Absolutely loving the life style and saving good money.

We have been with housecarers.com for years now. We find their annual fee not excessive & it actually covers you world wide. Regards Alice
