We are doing the same thing in about 3 weeks so will be interested in any recommendations, leaving the big van home and going in a small old cub camper, as we just need something to sleep in ........

I am assuming when you say the Gulf you mean Karumba.

There is a great free camp where the Matilda Development rd crosses the Boynoe river. The Barramundi fishing there was great also. Last time I was up there the Camps free campsite 257 was impossible because some one had poured concrete down the toilet.  As the Karumba CP is very busy, and in my opinion the overflow alternate is not that great I would suggest you could stay at Walker creek until a vacancy comes up or pre book.

Thank you for your advice. We are hoping by the time we get there the southerners are on their way home. Ha Ha. Probably not, but nice thought. Just hope there are some fish left. We may see you up there Pauline. Have you booked Karumba?
