Overseas Travel Insurance For Pre-Existing Conditions...

I was looking at travel insurance for pre-existing conditions for this company in particular but the reviews are very mixed although without knowing the full story behind each case it is hard to judge, see;

http://www.productreview.com.au/p/insure-and-go.html

Who do others use or have you used the above company in the past and had to make a claim?

Hi Weevil,
We went through NRMA.
The rest either wanted a payed trip to tagalong, or just totally out of the question.

weevil
if you pay for the trip by credit card you may get travel insurance from your card provider
I did this with a commonwealth bank platinum card but check with your bank

Hi Weevil,  My experience with travel insurance is you report the Pre-Existing condition and they excluded that condition from the policy. So some common sense is advised, if you have a serious heart condition and have a problem over seas you are on your own. But if you take medication for hypertension and it is under control Go and enjoy yourself. I cannot speak to RACQ travel insurance as I use credit card insurance. If you are away for two months or more you can suspend your private health insurance and they will issue travel insurance For that period. Hope this helps. Regards Wayne.

Hi Weevil,

Overseas travel can be quite daunting what with insurance, travel costs and such, but in my experience like traveling in Australia some local knowledge really helps. With that in mind some things for you to consider, Holland America is a great company to cruise with, and their "repositioning" cruises are of great value. As an example the one way cruise from Vancouver to Brisbane stopping at Hawaii and several pacific islands is excellent. While you were in North America you could even combine a Alaska cruise with the same company or just tour Canada buy coach. As I have traveled with this company this past seven years I post this with the hope that it will be of interest to everyone and happy to reply to any questions regarding cruising. Regards Wayne

Vic - travel insurance offered with a credit card apparently is questionable even for domestic travel. For overseas travel I'd ask a seasoned overseas traveller, A friend of mine age 68 with a cancer in remission was refused travel insurance with all insurers - said bu**er it I want to go - went bellyup on a Rhine river cruise and it cost him over $20,000 to get back to Australia. Even the airlines will not transport you if you are likely to go bellyup on the plane....same as a 9 months pregnant woman.
Good Luck

Thanks Denis, I don't have a credit card so that lets that option out.

I have joined a Facebook group of people that go on cruises and that has been helpful as well.

To be honest, I think I will just stick to "land cruises", a lot less hassles, including aircraft connections etc.... hmm

 Some car rental operations ask if the driver will be under 25 or over 70.
