I Bought a ..............

No! I didn't buy a jeep.

I bought a mining claim. I move onto the claim today, it's at Sapphire Queensland.

Hoping to make my fortune or just having fun trying. Will also be a nice base for the winter months and still travel around.

A few of you already know. Time to make it official as of today.

I don't know... Maybe...
You should have gone to Michael Hill.

But enjoy the chase of finding the opals.

Good Luck

Have been to Sapphire and dug the dirt looking for those riches and it is hard yakka.
Found a few but nothing to write home about.

Enjoy the challenge.

Cheers

There is a diamond in the north of WA gone into liquidation. You should  make an offer to the bank then you can holiday in the Kimberly's

Good luck, half an hour digging in a creek bed in Sapphire made me decide it wasn't fun

That is fantastic Marj, good on you. I hope you make it big and then give Gina a run for her money. What a hoot. Love it.

Well done Marj!  Hope you might turn something up even if it is only good weather for the winter period!

What size is it?   Goldfinger will be pleased.   I think he is somewhere in the north/east of Kalgoorlie goldfields somewhere at the moment if he had left already....

Lots of questions, will try to answer them all.
Firstly no opals at Sapphire, sapphires, rubies, diamonds etc can be found.
No power, water or toilet on claim so must be fully self contained haha, and one at a time. Dump point, toilets and drinking water up by the free camp in town.
No hard digging, I will get a bobcat to come in to dig a hole, put it all in a pile and I will start at the top. The previous owners are still here for a few days so we are basically camping out at the moment. When they have gone I will be able to glamp it up a bit and make it mine.
I have already found some sapphires around the town, still in an uncut condition, will get them evaluated in the next few days.
Thank you for all the well wishes, appreciated. Another interesting phase in my life to enjoy. Too young and too busy to think about the alternative.

Edited for additional information. Each claim is 30 metres x 30 metres. This one is fully fenced but has no buildings, my next step will be to find a suitable shed, either old caravan, donga or site shed or a small garden shed, to store my equipment when I am not here.

smile Well done you.

What a way to be totally focused on the moment.

Don't just look for the blue ones.

All the best to you.

Well done!
The weather on the fields is usually really nice in the middle months of the year.
Walking around the area after heavy rains can be productive.........
Friend of ours lived up there for years - now dead - his wife owned the Bobby Dazzler outfit at Rubyvale.

Whilst we really like the sapphire fields area (and have had a few stays there), the "mining" town that we really love is Lightning Ridge. I have to keep a close eye on the Driver, to make sure he doesn't sneak off and buy a claim!

congratulations on your claim. We were in Rubyvale a few weeks ago visiting friends with a claim there. They have found some worthwhile 'rocks'. It is a fantastic area, I loved it there.
