ROAD WORKS DARWIN STYLE

Great to be back in the Top End,,  great weather etc BUT the thing that impressed me most is many road works they just block the lane off and you go past at 70 or 60km,,

some are 40km where one lane controlled today.

No need for 60/40/25km for a km or so either side of the work.

Congrats NT for "common sense".

I will second the motion. The road workers here anyway seem to have a more sensible approach to safety.

Unlike the grader driver on the lasseter highway to Ayers Rock a few weeks ago. He was shouting and swearing at everyone that went past(on the uhf too) even if you were doing less than 40 kmh.

Yea........we don't huff and puff, we just do things proper. All hail to common sense, that's sadly elsewhere is being stifled,....sadens me, seeing rules rules rules bit by bit, controlling our every day lives. Idiot........runs off road somewhere, authorities wack up a railing, they are going up everywhere. the way they're going all roads will have railings one day......Grrrrrrr

Majority of incidents are speed / youth / drug, alcohol related.......and the "fix".........we all get more "controlled". How about the under 25's are forced to have speed limiters, drug/breathalizers wired in to their vehicles that immobilize vehicle when they detect.

How about we make the younger folks really earn their privalidges, ( spelt wrong ) and force the youngers to see first hand the carnage in our emergency wards......shock the buggers with real life consequences.

You get booked for drug/drink driving....."that" car is impounded, you walk for 2 yrs. If...."that" car is not theirs........tuff.

Have you ever worked on the road and had to dodge the ratbags not slowing down, I spent some time on the gibb doing floodways and culvets and the dick for brains towing caravans going through a half closed road and then swerving, trying to get control back would take more fingers than I have to count and that was nearly a daily ocurances. Even had one go threw a stop sign and only stopped when the excuvator boom was nearly through his window. Said he didnt see the sign.

Can't help the idiots eh Blaze. My post was to highlight what is IMHO the absurd distances and speeds now at the APPROACH AND DEPARTURE ends of the roadworks not the road works per se.

No one wants to see road workers injured I'm sure, but the distances/speeds add considerable times to journeys and more stress/fatigue. The Bruce Highway North of Mackay in 2013 was aprime example,, ROADWORKS EVERY 5-10KM.

If there's no mechanical barrier or distance between worksite and traffic ? Speed needs to be reduced..
Work over law..

Approach speed limits are for the safety of workers who have to control the traffic.
