Why don't you take it to a Honda dealership?

First of all the Honda does have a stator not a alternator so far I know

The common problem is most likely that the rectifier spit the dummy or

that the 3 way white plug on the stator wires is burned out,

and that stop you dead in your tracks

most early Gold-Wing riders used to solder the wires together instead of having a plug there

so there you have the most commen problems

also try to get a workshop manual for it

Wich model do you have exacly is it like the photo???

I don't know if Frazer still has a shop in Newcastle
an other good one used to be in Windsor Hawkesbury Motorcycles still there I think

Yes it is exactly the same as the photo. They only produced 800.
I was advised to be wary of just any Honda dealer, as a lot of them don't understand older 'bikes.
I will have a chat to Frazers in N/castle.

See if you can contact the local chapter of the Ulysses Club, (Newcastle Lower Hunter Region) they'll steer you in the right direction. They're contact No is 0412 600 664.

If you check that white 3 way plug what comes from the stator first
It is under your seat on the rear mudguard (3 plugs together 2 small one big one )
I just had a look in one of my manuals
Also check if your main fuse is still ok , they are very tricky they can look ok but have some times
a hairline crack in them

Now if you have a multimeter and know how to use it , there is another test to see if stator is ok.

First of all , make sure you have a fully charged battery. Then disconnect the white plug...start bike up and let it run at even idle ..Don't rev it up ... and on the alternator side of white plug (male side from memory) with multimeter on ac volts ...check output voltage on each pair of wires..3x2 pairs. Voltage needs to be consistant across all pairs...and not below 15 volts per pair.

If its outside any of this ....stator is stuffed ...and from memory it is engine out of frame to get at it.

There is a bloke at Colo Vale who has rewound mine in the past who does a top job. If yours needs to be rewound ..P/M me and I will try and find his ccontacts.

Also set your multimeter at dc volts ...and with everything connected and at idle ...;there should be a consistant 14 volts ...even with headlight on.

And if you have a digital multi-meter, make sure you have good batteries in it. Just been thru all of this with a old Honda Lead 80. Battery flattened and testing the charging I found it wasn't charging at what the manual said - at least according to my meter. Pulled stator off (not easy), cleaned, purchased a new regulator/rectifier, and still wouldn't work after I put it all back together. Doubled checked everything then got out an old multi-meter when it became obvious that something was wrong with my good digital meter. Everything was working according to my old meter. Between what would appear dodgy connections and a digital multi-meter with an almost flat battery, I was being misled. All now OK.

And I,m #4902. But I reckon it aint the same club I joined 22 years ago..

I know ...I know...time moves on and change happens....but not for the better in this case IMO.
