Van Dolly

Anyone using one of these? If so, are they useful?

I am very interested in the positioning of your coupling, in relation to the "A" Frame.

It appears that this one is fixed to the Bottom of the "A" Frame, where-as mine is fixed on top of the "A" Frame.

The arrangement depicted here allows for additional lift or ground clearance, and allows for a more level towing arrangement, with reduced need for Weight Distribution Devices.

What brand of van please, and some info on size, weight etc.

Cheers, KB

Our coupling is very similar. Our van is a Golden Eagle. Contrary to your comments, in our case it is a pain in the proverbial as I cannot get the coupling low enough to level the van. The chains on the WDH are on the last link. When asked the manufacturer it had to do with some obscure legislation (no doubt written by some useless bureaucrat) that basically states that the coupling cannot be higher than 500mm off the ground when the van is level. As a result of this I have had to gat a spacer made up in order to lift the coupling higher. Talking to a van repairer in Qld, they do quite a few similar mods.

The dolly is supposed to be made in Victoria. It's mainly bolted together, not welded. Not sure if that's good or bad. Just as long as it can handle a 160kg ball weight.

I'm not after this particular one, just any comments from anyone using such a device.
