G'day all,

Can someone tell me if the free camp just south of Hillston, NSW is still open? Its a few years since we were through there.

Regards Phil B.

Camps8 is Feb 2015. Never seen any prior editions but they are available in camping shops (Ray's) and Larger Newsagents. So you could probably have a thumb thru one to see if 8 is worth it.

Stayed at Hillston CP a few weeks ago great place & relatively cheap at $25 powered per night. Driving South along the Kidman Way down to Goolgowi we saw the stop you are asking about. Looks very open & more like a truck stop than a RV Rest Area. It would be very noisy at night as it's not far off the Hwy. We wouldn't consider staying at it. There's a lovely Rest Area 1km West of the Hwy cross roads at Goolgowi on the Mid Western Hwy.

Hi Mike. Camps 8 will be much more up to date than C5. The husband and wife editors spent a good part of last year touring the country and getting feedback from other contributors. Make sure you go on-line if you do buy C8 - you get 2 years of free on-line up-dates (till the next edition is published)

Thanks to all who replied. I don't remember a lot of trucks the last time we were there. Will give the Goolgowi stop a go.

There's also an excellent one at Willanthry on the Lachlan River 35kms North of Hillston on the right side heading North a few hundred mtrs past the turn off to Lake Cargelligo just before the bridge. We stayed 3 nights it was so good, so did a few other folk. There's also an official Rest Area on the opposite side of the bridge for overnight stays. If you can't get that far the one at Goolgowi is quite nice, a few people stay there.
