Free Camps suitable for Big Rig from Townsville to Cooktown

Hi all, we are heading north and would like to know if any one has actually travelled from Townsville to Cooktown,  in a Big Rig NOT  4WD so far this season. What road did you travel. We would like to go via Tablelands.  Also any free/budget camps you may have stayed at. TIA

Townsville coastal to Innisfail, then up the Palmerston range to the Atherton tablelands, head towards atherton, then mareeba, then Mt malloy, then follow sign posts to Cooktown.

Bitumen all the way, free camp 5km outskirts atherton ( Rocky creek ) on the mareeba road, free camp outskirts Mt malloy ( creek, easy access ) driving time malloy / cooktown 3.5hrs, several good lay byes enroute.

Freecamp cooktown........not sure about, possible airport road, grassed and treed, good sized area.

from Townsville, Blue Water Rollingstone and bushy Parker may be a bit close but will take a big rig
Tully Showground if your fully self contained.
Babinda can stay for 2 weeks, great spot.
Mt Malloy before the trip up to cook town
We travelled via port Douglas then across to Mt Malloy and came back via the table lands, good free camp at Rocky Creek Memorial park.
Alternately you can go turn off at Innisfail but cant help with that trip

Mt Molloy is a very popular stop over it seems at this time of year. Pretty crowded from what I have seen previously.
