They are still charging "mining" prices though.

For a powered site at Cooke Point Port Hedland $57pn and they wonder why tourists don't come.

Well, I hope they "suffer in their jocks "   We also stayed in that c/ park a few years back, I think the going price those days was $ 52 p/n

and that turned out to be a site only big enough for a camper trailer, we had a 18' van, so we had to leave the car out in the parking area,

What a rip off.nonofurious

Peter. Agree with your comments about Pt Hedlad - I was based there running a company for about 2 years and it was known as the "armpit" of the Pilbara. A dirty, red dust dump. Have a look at Karratha - totally the opposite.

We were up there recently and the CP's are still charging the old "lets screw them over" mining company prices. Hope they all go tits up and new operators move in who charge what the area is worth and have more service delivery. The CP in South Hedland used to be packed out with 'vans almost stacked on top of each other with dirty facilities.

They turned the "South Hedland Caravan Park" into a workers camp years ago. Blackrock caravan park is full of feral permanents. Before "Fleetwood" took over the Cooke Point park I rented a big on site van for $250.00 a week including power, lived their for twelve months (1994) till I found a suitable house for the family, basic but clean. Went there for 4 weeks to relieve, ended up doing an 18 year sentence. They only charge what people are willing to pay! Numbers are dropping fast in Hedland so the prices will or they will close up shop.
Plenty of spots to pull up for free with very basic facility's at most of them, Turner River 40kms south, De-Gray river 45kms north Shaw river on the Marble Bar Rd or do what many do & park at the airport overnight !!

Bruce and Bev, I agree Karratha is a nicer town than Hedland but the caravan parks here are still charging the same mining rates even though the park closest to town is almost empty.
The park in the industrial area is still $35
