I'm with you Happywanderer - apart from them not being what they used to be, I object to having to pay to view something that mother nature created.
Regards
When Melbourne has user pays for public transport I'll consider it but till then they can take a long walk on a short pier

That's true Denis but someone has to pay for the upkeep on all the infrastructure they have built there .Having said that we won't bother again seen it once .And for people who haven't been there $10 is not too much in the sceme of it .Overseas visitors will pay Dhutime

We called into see the 12 Apostles 6 years ago, even then I could only count 5 - 6 ,
What a disappointment after travelling all the way from Perth, even back then, I would have complained bitterly if I was ripped off to the tune of $10.00 per head.
If they do go ahead with this charge, I hope they are honest enough to erect a sign saying,
" THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE THE 12 APOSTLES USED TO BE" !!!

I must tell you, that I will vote with both hands on the steering wheel, which equates to me giving this destination a wide berth. If they want the tourist to visit Victoria, then they need to provide the infrastructure to entice us, not put up barriers.
I agree that this not a man made structure, and therefore should be available for all to visit. Next thing they will be charging us to cross a busy intersection in their city.
Give me the site amongst the gum trees in the outback.

I wasn't aware the Melbourne doesn't charge for its public transport - you pay dearly for any public transport here - the only thing free are the trams in the inner CBD.
And they charge through the nose for their bloody toll roads. I went from Berwick to the Zoo and my credit card has been hit with a toll charge of $15.85.
Seniors in WA get better concessions on public transport than VIC - during the day on a weekday, weekends and public holidays - its free for someone with a seniors card - not in VIC........and WA part funds the systems and the whole State of VIC by giving them GST money (yep Im a bloody WA person and want to stop dishing out OUR money to other states - and that includes TAS and NT !!!!)

Bruce they do Charge for public transport but it falls way way short of what it cost to run it and fare evasion is rife in Melbourne.

I know this will bemuse many, but this is what we pay road taxes for.........infrastructure.
The so called infrastructure that is there was paid for by our taxes as it should be for our natural beauties. I lived down that way for a few years, know it well and I would not 'pay' to see the 9 and a half rocks that are left. Don't get me wrong, its a lovely view of the rocks at the right time of day/night and worth a look, but that's all - a look. However there are many other places and rock formations to look at down that way - are they going to charge for those as well?
This is one of the worlds greatest Marketing efforts almost as good as Santa and the Eater Bunny lol! Wait am I getting cynical with age - I'm far to young to be a cynic.

Sounds like a good idea to me particularly as probably 95% of people going to see them are overseas tourists. A great way of putting money into our country. Personally I've probably seen them 50+ times since I was a kid. Not much of them left these days. LOL.
