Hi all, hope u all in good spirits. Now down to it, does any body know where and how much these lock systems are. Was showen one other day and was expressed but he did say they where expensive just need to know what expenive is.
Many versions out there and all sorts of prices. Since the advent of battery powered grinders its all a moot point. Best security item is insurance and hope you don't need to use it.
While those types of locks are a good idea to stop an opportunistic thief, if a professional crim made a conscious decision to steal something of yours you don't have to make it too easy by leaving the doors unlocked, however most likely it will get stolen anyway.
Caravans with locks that stopped them being clipped onto a tow ball have still been stolen by simply locking their chains together into a loop and hooking that loop over the ball of the thief's tow vehicle.

Reading the posts about devices to stop your rig from being stolen I had an idea about possibly a better way to stop that from happening.
Seeing just about every van now has a 12 volt battery fitted, and an electric braking system.
What if a motion detector switched on the electric brakes on every wheel if someone tried to steal the van. With that system being able to be switched on or off via a remote control device similar to the remote used to unlock your car.
Come on I'm sure there would certainly be a few electronic experts on here that could make this idea a reality, and I don't think it would be all that difficult to do. Would just have to make sure that it would be difficult to circumvent with possibly a separate dedicated battery.
If you manage to turn this idea into a marketable item a small royalty heading my way would be nice thanks. Lol

Nice idea greyhoundtom but I would think it will be very easy to cut the electric wire going to the breaks and thus deactivating them.
I was hoping that those wires would be able to be protected a bit better and could be made difficult to get at, and that possibly the thieves would not wake up to the system until they actually try and tow the van away. Anything that stops a quick getaway would be worthwhile.

That's similar to what I have in my Avan but I use the house battery to sound 2 sirens located under the van and up hard against the chassis member with a cage over them and all wiring internal. The only way they can be stopped is to find the hidden switch or break into the Avan and then locate and cut the wiring.
In mine the trigger mechanism is the handbrake which I pull on hard before leaving the van - it's one of the first things they'd touch and when they do the alarm sounds. Secret switch is nearby if I forget and if I drove off forgetting to unlock the handbrake the tyres would be skidding.
