road conditions el questro

Has anyone with a caravan travelled upto el questro? Have had conflicting reports from people with regards to road conditions and problems with caravan and cars on their return

We were there in September last year. The Gibb River Road to the El Questro turn off from the Kununnurra end is sealed. From the turn off its 16km to the campground area which is a gravel road with a couple of river crossings. When we were there the 16k was being continually graded, though it certainly still had some corrugations and the edge of the road was fairly rough from rocks the grader was pushing over to the side. The rivers were low enough that they weren't an issue for any vehicles, 2wd or 4wd. There were on road vans in there and it shouldn't be a problem with any van if you take it slowly and carefully.

Its well worth stopping there, was one of our highlights. The campground was good, with very nice individual toilet/shower units and plenty of hot water, reasonable laundry facilities and a very nice swimming hole behind the restaurant. Its not cheap at $20 per person per day for unpowered plus a fee for entry to El Questro, which you pay even if you don't stay, and another $22 per night per site if you get one of their powered sites. But we loved it and intend to return.

We drove there last year and the roads were ok, a couple of shallow rivers but drove to the conditions. We didnt stay because we thought it expensive and even though they accept dogs you can't take them out of the park nor leave them in the van.We also thought it a bit rich having to pay to go into the gorges even though you paid to stay there.

I will be heading in in the next couple of days. I am in kununuĊra restocking after the gibb river road and mitchell falls The area has had a record 10 year dry wet season if that makes sense. The biggest problem with the road is the imbasile kamakazi pilots coming at you at warp speed on the wrong side of the road because someone once told them you need to travel over 80kmh to ride the corrugations. Lower your tyre pressure and slow down and you will enjoy it more Cheers
