Had similar problems with Avida fitted Plug on ESC - Mine was applying brakes and stalling tug (patrol) when turning corners - Avida manager told me Australian Standards are only "recomendations) and they don't have to follow them. Trouble being that auto electricians and their own dealers don't know which to put where - so it becomes a guess and hope exercise.

If they hear that Jayco, a Dealer or sparkie did this - they'll be on that outfits case and also review their installation instructions (if its needed)

I agree with that Bruce, whoever made that loom really screwed the pooch. I'll find the address and get an email in the system.
I thought about reversing the connections in the 12 pin plug but didn't like the thought of what earth being positive would do to other stuff on the circuit.
I am planning to run a line via a fuse from the 12 volt fridge terminals to the ESC. Does anyone know if this is legal? The original feed comes from the trailer connector so I don't think there can be a problem. Advice would be appreciated.

Gee Possum, a number of good people on this forum would be up in arm over that manager from Avida. Standards are the bible, and MUST be complied with. My experience with auto electricians is not a good one, mind you a number of them are excellent however there are a few Cowboys out there as well. I guess the same applies to sparkies.

Jim, just make sure the lights come on and turn green when you hitch up the plugs. You may also need an adaptor from the tug to the van if the van has LED signal lights, that will depend on the type of tug you have. My Ford Ranger didn't like the LEDs at all and I was given an adaptor from our Ford dealer.

yeah van is back and working well. It was nice to feel the brakes working again. We checked everything at least twice before we pulled out from repairer and when we got home I had left the breakaway cable off. MUST get a checklist.
We will be off to Perth then Broome early next year so everything must be tip top.
Ive got to tell you I was a bit peed off when I found those cables inverted. I have contacted AL KO and Jayco, still no response from AL KO but Jayco can't believe their eyes (company line) I am very keen to see what AL KO has to say.

Heard back from AL KO yet......had a problem with another of their products which was incorrectly installed by a Dealer - when I found out and contacted AL KO, they replied within about 24 hours and attached a copy of a letter they sent to that Dealer suspending all AL KO work and products until all their tech staff had been retrained at AL KO's expense (they told me they would send one of their own staff to the Dealer and they would be given classroom and hands on training on all AL KO products.
The Dealer fitted my ESC to my 'van. Recently had it at the manufacturer and got them to check all the work the Dealer had done as part of the selling/buying deal including the ESC - they got their contract electrical company in and went over all the gear (both are in the same street, so it wasn't a huge deal for them anyway) the Dealer did and gave it the tick off as being ok
Its always disappointing to say the least when you pay a lot of money to these tradies or technicians and they either don't know what they are doing, don't care what they are doing - or both

G'day Bruce, at this stage I hadn't heard from AL KO. It's near a week now so I will phone them next week to see what's what. Because I'm an electrician I can fix the thing myself and I'm not interested in reparation or compensation. My big deal is how many more Jaycos are there with this issue? I was blindly towing thinking the ESC was protecting me, lucky we didn't REALLY need it.
The big deal I now have with Jayco is that they haven't got back to me. Two issues with one system transposed power and wrong pin. I swear my van was a late Friday afternoon job on a long weekend, built by the work experience kid.

G'Day I have just read this and I am glad I have. we have a 2013 Jayco Sterling that has the ALKO ESC fittted and I have been doubtful about it working, so I am going to check the plug on mine today, when it is actually daylight, it is probably worth mentioning that the ALKO ESC does need to be connected to an approved brake controller to work correctly, they have a list on their web site of controllers.
