Hi all. Have tried doing a search but didn't come up with what is needed. Our newly purchased 2nd hand van has done some bush work in the past and obviously the rolled up awning has brushed trees etc which has caused a row of about 1metre of small holes about 100m from the top of the awning which in heavy rain leaks. It is not bad enough to replace as it just runs down the awning to the bottom but believe there is a tape you can adhere to the canvas to seal the area. Anyone know about it.
Quality (black fabric) duct tape will do the job adequately, it should be good for 3-4 years if applied correctly on cleaned surface (clean with metho and chux cloth).
As an aside; When we were 4WD'ng up at Karumba Qld back in '96 My sister-in-law's Pajero broke bolts affixing bull bar (vibration due to corrugated roads) - I taped it back on as a temporary measure with duct tape - it was still holding in there 4 years later when she sold the Pajero. Like American Express card "don't leave home without it".

We use a product called storm sure, it's a small tube of glue type product that smells like tarzans grip glue. Takes a day or two to set is highly flexible and cost a bit. We got ours from eBay
Good luck with that, we used gaffer tape which is a cloth tape and it let go in the sun.

A sailmaker should be able to supply sail repair cloth that would be suitable for you. It comes in tape, sheet or round patches in many colours. It stands up well to salt water (read waves) and pretty strong winds. I carry some in sheet form for emergency repairs and think it cost me a 6pack.

Thank you all. Especially knowing about the gaffer tape as we nearly bought a roll but at $70 for such a small area I decided against it. I think for the shape and size I shall try the good old duct tape. Thanks again. Hope to meet some of you guys some day over happy hour- when we finally get on the road -soon I hope.
