Thanks for the replies I do have wiki camps app but not being the brightest bulb on the tree or the sharpest tool in the shed I find it a bit hard to work sometimes

and just thought it would be easier to ask here

Why gothe Newell when there re so many major secondary good roads with plenty of camps along the way & not the traffic- just a thought unless you specifically want to travel the Newell. Safe trip either way

Des, I can relate to using 'technology' ... I am still an 'old fart dinosaur' and use Camps books.

There is NO technology needed to operate the Camps book. It clearly shows all the camps that they list and a big map so you can actually see where you are wanting to be going. Better than a small screen

If you need to get more information about a listed camp, I use Google Maps and insert the GPS co-ords from the Camps book to pinpoint the camp and use "Directions" in Google maps to get some idea of actual distance to the camp from where I am - and the way to travel there ... often with more than one option.

Using Google Satellite and/or Google Street View also gives more information about the location - if Street View operates in that location.

I know Wikicamps can operate "off line" but the HEMA maps in the Camps book are there all the time as well.

If you use the Updates facility on the Camps Australia website, then you are more up to date - you can save them to file and print them off if you need.

Given that the Newell Hwy is about 1,100km long, it certainly makes sense to sit with the Camps book and develop a 'broad plan/itinerary' for your journey.

Such a long highway makes it difficult for folk on here to give you anything but broad information - and if they did provide an expansive list, it would a long list and be mostly in a Camps book anyway ... and it is difficult to know how far you intend to, or may, travel in any one day. You could do the Newell in one day or take two weeks stopping at numerous camps.

Like Oma says, I try to stay away from major highways in my travels and especially the Newell. It is a major truck route and almost always a busy journey. Perhaps use the Camps book to plan a more interesting journey visiting some of the more interesting "side trips"... Unless you need to be in Gold Coast quickly or in a tight timeframe.

Hi Thedes, you have made the 1st step, you have bought Wikicamps. Wikicamps is by far the best camp site finder.Take your time and learn how to use it, you will not be disappointed.

Thedes It is very hard to answers your request has it all depends where you are when you want to stop , We have found target traveling put a lot of pressure on to get some where , So where we have stayed may not be where you are at the end of your day that why you need a camps book and/or Wikicamps App it's that easy you will always find some where to stop .

Then it looks like Camps Australia Wide is your tool to use. Get it from that link, some bookshops or camping stores.
