Hi
The towing capacity of a Birdsville is probably 1500kg (you should check) The Jimny GVM weight is 1420 so very close to the maximum towing allowed, you could put very little in it. Also are you aware you have to modify the drive train on a Jimny to tow it ,this will cost about $2200,assuming you mean to flat tow.If you mean on a trailer then you will be overweight,Jimny + trailer will be more then 1500kg

Look for something smaller to tow.Why a Jimny? Getz, Swift, etc are all ok for the Fiat to tow. Look at this page as a guide but I not suggesting this tow system

hitchngo.com.au/aframe_vehicles.html

and try to find a car under 1400kg GVM not tare or kerb weight as the authorities state GVM weight to be legal
If you must go 4x4 then the old Suzuki Sierra is only about 1300 GVM so this would do just a question of finding a good old one . I tow a Suzuki Alto and I dont know it is behind the MH.When and if we need to go somewhere offroad ther is always a 4x4 tour. Works for us

Seems like deja vu, I had a chat like this yesterday. Definitely need to know the tow capacity of the Birdsville, if you can put it on a trailer that would be the best for you guys but that all depends if the Fiat can do it. I know you guys really like the Jimny so must be a way to work it.

Is your vehicle a front wheel drive or rear wheel drive. I think this is our problem but we can't afford to upgrade.

I think we need to do more research. Do we really need to tow a vehicle?

I am not sure of how to work this site. My answers are for both Jade 46 and for Woolly. Thank you for for taking the time to answer my questions 😊

Hi all. A few of the replies are off the mark. If your Jimny has electronic ( push button ) 4wd selector you cannot flat tow without doing expensive damage. We tow a dual axle trailer with our Jimny chook chaserr on board and with a couple of boxes for fishing gear, chainsaw, axe, etc it weighs in at 2400 kg, well within its rated max of 2850 kg. We tow ours with a Mercedes M/h of 140 hp using 20L/100km and whilst not a tyre burning performer has towed this trailer on the steepest roads in Qld and NSW. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Hi Kelpie
He has a Birdsville on a Fiat base.Max tow is 1500kg and max ball weight 100kg.Very hard to make these figures with a Jimny + a trailer I think you will concede.

as i have said earlier there is a modification for the Jimny drive train called a "wizard" This allows to flat tow them but it costs around $2200.00 Works by disconnecting the tail shaft i/e a dog clutch

(see Pics 2  property of SuzuiSports)

Hi guys. We tow a trailer with a jimny on. The jimny only weighs 1026kgs. That's the weigh ridge weight not rego papers, trailer weighs another 610 so you would be massively overweight.

cheers,

Laurie

p.s. It is a 2012 model jimny
