Now sad tale

On Saturday the fridge in our M/H died.  Maybe it is just a blockage in the gas  but who knows.  Keith thins if he could just get the fridge out & lay it on each side for  while it might clear.  Trouble he is just one man & as a puny female I am not much help.  So we sit here (near Malanda) scratching our heads hoping a solution will jump out of the woodwork.  Even if the fridge is dead completely he will still have to get it out & new one in.  And of course the decision of what kind of fridge to replace it with.  Who said being  a grey nomad was easy,

Alice (not sure whether to be happy (refer to previous post) or have  a cry

If you have good solar power you can buy a domestic fridge freezer from Harvey Norman or the like for under $600.

Even if you don't have solar, the difference between that price and what a dedicated 12/240v or a 3 way fridge will buy a suitable inverter & sufficient solar to run it.

The cost of dedicated van fridges is a blatant rip-off IMHO.

Cheers Neil

Hi Alice .If you think its buggered ,turf it and move on ! That is to say some wires and a small gas line and a few mongrel screws will have it out in no time .Even the big dometics don,t weigh that much.Once its movable place a towel on the floor in front of it and guide it on to the towel you will slide it to the door and then aim it straight out if you feel like it .I am 5,7 and I have moved large stoves dishwashers ,fridges etc on an old blanket or towel with ease. Now,having said that measure the opening and get on to google and see whats around.Or....move on and find a fridge mechanic and get an opinion .However ,if you think its past its prime ..well .!! Best Wishes with your endeavors John.

This fridge is a fridge freezer & full sized. Runs on either 12V or gas. Cause it is American.

Where are you Alice? I am in Townsville and if close I could come and help Keith turn it on it's side perhaps?

I thought you turned the absorption type fridges upside down? Should be some old refrig mechanics around Malanda as there are lots of coolrooms on the farms.
Good Luck.

Thanks for offer Doug but we are up on the tableland near Malanda. I guess Keith will work it all out. He is quite resourceful. He is weighing up all options. Luckily we have a fridge/freezer which we can use as a fridge for now. Of course there are fridges in the house where we are house sitting but I don't relish hiking up & down a steep driveway every time I want the milk for a cuppa. To get the fridge out it is not just a matter of sliding it forward as it is about 18 inches off the floor. I think he is going to build a simple platform the same height as the fridge & he can slide it out onto that & then tip it over. Anyway today is a fridge free day for Keith as he has gone to Cairns for a dental appointment. A bit of sun here today after 4 days of rain Alice
