Hi Cruisaderhilton, Sorry I just saw this post and I  put a similar thing on general . sorry. So what it is saying is "if we pay more for registration we will drive faster". It is illegal to drive over the limit and if everyone is to drive legally they will always be under the limit. maybe he is too impatient and should stay off the roads.

It's very disappointing to read such insulting and not so veiled prejudices as this sad-sack fellow has presented to his readers. The worrying thing is some dunderhead may take him seriously, after all seniors bashing stems from the top and is independent of party or personality.

I would like to see a print out of the reporters driving record. For THE RECORD.  "PAUL"

I have had my licence for 41 years without penalty. never been an at fault driver. drive to the limit. used 4x4 cars from 1981. towed trailers from age 18. can reverse a 2.470mm tandem van through 2.9mt driveway for  100mtrs in one go. that gives me 200mm clearance either side.

Give us a fair go Pic....k.

How many truck accidents per year that take out / kill innercent drivers and passengers in their cars. He's worried about 5 ton. Try a 60 ton road train going past at 110. AND their SPEED LIMITED. Get OFF.

Just yesterday I travelled Sydney to Newcastle and back. with a friend driving .The traffic was heavy and raining from Mooney Mooney Bridge to Newcastle. Going north he sat in a que of cars @120kph. we counted 7 hyw petrol cars sitting on the M1 in various locations. Not one car was booked. and the posted limit 110kph. Go Figure.

Compare the Stats and think again before you let fly from behind your desk.

Hey Jim

Lets form a deputation of GN's to visit him in Intensive Care when he inevitably has his first stroke or heart attack from living life "in his intellectual/greedy fast lane"....then he may wish to start living life in moderation...ironically his heart may not be able to take the slower pace..I for one wouldn't trade places with this complete DH for quids.....here comes another passing lane...lets remain in the safe left lane, and hope the 'fast paced, greedy, manipulative, less likely for a long fulfilling life, amoeba brain, morons, remain in their "fast lanes as we salute them "twice" as they race 'life' by, oblivious of true reality/contentment...until their maker has the last laugh usually health wise......Buy, Buy, ...Byeee..and he missed life by "that much" Chief!!.......Hoo Roo & Good Riddance to all DH's.....if they were all laid end to end they still wouldn't reach an intelligent conclusion to life's real priorities........I agree...to disagree...jpg

Seems multiple threads on the same subject is the order of the day nowconfuse so here's a cut and paste of my reply to the same topic in the general forum.smile

Have to say, overall I tend to agree with the author of the article, however the way it was written was certainly designed to stir the pot.

We live in a rural area with more than out share of old timers on the road, driving cars, motor homes and towing vans and trailers, not only do a lot of them slow traffic to a crawl they also seem to enjoy hugging the centre line making it almost impossible to overtake, they a danger to themselves and anyone else unfortunate enough to be sharing the road with them at the time.

One of the problems is that when doctors feel a persons health (physical or mental) is affecting their driving they have the discretionary power to limit the person to driving on local roads within a certain distance from homeno as far as I'm concerned your either fit to drive or your not, if a doctor considers anyone unfit to drive they should revoke that persons license.

Tailgating is a serious issue, it can have disastrous consequences http://www.driverknowledgetests.com/resources/what-is-tailgating/

Here's another link to the SA Govt site listing offenses and penalties http://www.mylicence.sa.gov.au/road-rules/offences-and-penalties

How I feel today....jpg...I'll take my chances riding passenger with an over 65Y driver over an under 25Y any day of the week and twice on Sundays particularly 'Ice' is now the problem it is........period.....the photo shows my main problem is with tired drivers of all ages Australia wide..who think they can battle on without a pit stop......little to do with age...and its causes the majority of accidents not us older and not always so wiser driver.....Hoo Roo

what an idiot this guy is. It annoyed me so much that I have emailed him the following:

Dear Paul

Your recent article denigrating caravan users as a group of doddering old fools who cant drive and get in the way of "proper and safe" drivers is such a generalization as to be laughable.

The only unfortunate thing about your rambling and idiotic rant, was it was printed in a newspaper (albeit not a particularly credible one) even if it was on page 55.

I've been fortunate not to have been exposed to you as a so called journalist, but this particular article has been scanned and posted on a number of sites used by people who use RV's (you can rush away and find out what that means as your article shows a total lack of knowledge of this particular type of leisure, pleasure or life style.

It may further surprise you to know what it is estimated by the manufacturing industry which employs 1000s of people (more than Ford or Holden will do in several years time) that about one third of users are younger than 50. They are not your Ma and Pa people who you claim to be looking for the next cheap meal at a bowling club.

The biggest RV (worked out what that means yet, Paul?) manufacturer is Jayco which holds about 51% of the market. It produces over 400 RV vehicles from its plants each week. Assuming you have the capacity to use a calculator, you might be able to work out just how big the industry is and then estimate how many people are employed by it. RV's are hand intensive built, unlike your motor vehicle which is highly mechanized with less labour per unit. You could even take the effort to lift your hand and telephone Jayco for this detail.

These doddering fools that drive slowly and wander all over the road, slowing you or your wife rushing in your SUV to collect your kids from school, all contribute huge amounts of money into rural communities. If you had taken the time to do some research and got some back ground information from the various RV organisations, like the CMCA. you would have found almost 50% of small towns have now displayed "RV Friendly" signs at the entrance to their shires and councils. This means they often provide free or low cost camping overnight and the local businesses now rely heavily on RV users to shop in their town. RV users who are on the road regularly are helping to fill the financial loss by the wind back of mining and their staff and farmers in drought areas. Northern Queensland Tourism are actively advertising to get more RV users to visit them to support local businesses who are on the verge of collapse from farmers in their fourth year of drought.

As for the geriatrics, we have contributed taxes all our life to provide you and your children with good government services - you and your generation are where you now because we worked hard for you (or maybe your parents didn't). We didn't have all the benefits of sick leave, maternity leave, pre-school payments and the multitude of other government handouts you and subsequent generations take for granted. Many of us are self-funded as well, so we are not a taxpayer liability, even if we are entitled - having paid for it with taxes for longer than you have been on this planet - to a retirement pension.

I could rave on, as you did in your ill thought out and silly comment feature which hopefully was surrounded by the Births and Deaths classifieds - where it belongs

You have all the makings of a radio Shock Jock - a wind up merchant where facts are cast to one side in order to cause listeners to froth at the mouth and react. Hopefully the readers of your rag are more sensible and will read this rubbish for what it is - a poorly written piece of rubbish!

Regards

Bruce Harris

I haven't had a reply yet and don't expect one. It would be difficult for him to justify his ill informed and lunatic ravings - maybe hes a wannabe radio shock jock and needs to build up his resume of rubbish to get a suitable job in Sydney or Melbourne.

I am just amazed that the Editor allows this sort of garbage in his paper rag - I assume that's what this so called "news"paper is.........

If he does reply, I will post it here. But no doubt he is planning who he will slag off next

Very good B H.
I have just returned home today after 7000 ks tour around Qld. and have a lot of ammo to send to this joker too.

This is his second go at the older side of society in the last few years and he obviously has no idea what he is talking about. I would bet that he has never been further South than The Gold Coast North of Caloundra or West of Ipswich.

I wouldn't wait for a reply, the last article, probably five years ago, stirred me to write a response to him, without any reply at all.

It is obvious that he is complete moron lacking in manners and has no idea what he is talking about.

Have fun Haji-Baba.

without having ever read this "news" paper, I assume he is a regular writer of "opinions" which some rags do to stir people up and bolster sales. Is this turkey a regular writer who always writes this sort of stir-up material. If he does, then most thinking people will treat his stuff on matures with a laugh, rather than take him seriously.

But as I said before, its the Publisher and Editor who employs and encourages this idiot to write this stuff - hes just a stupid **** - they should be more responsible. I imagine theyre right into the "shock, horror, scandal" news.......

When I get up to QLD, I'll see if I can find a Courier Mail in a rubbish bin (wont donate to them by buying one). Notice this idiots column is called AGENDA - got to wonder what his agenda is - I think its just stirring up people with his stupid and ill-founded columns

Hi Bruce & Bev,

Bruce what if you emailed the Editor directly of the said Paper for a response. That may trigger a response, or the Editor may be an inbreed too.

i'll chime in........being a previous "truckie" during some of  lifes span, us ol nomads can really earn browny points by.........

not convoying.......leave 500+ metres gap

when truck is in your mirrors, BACK  OFF, when passing oppertunity comes along, remember also, your perception of him passing at XXX spot, may infact cause him tyre grief etc, hence he still sits behind you, so don't get the shytes.......and not bother next opertunity

reeely helps trucks, if you back off at the top of an incline.....we can rocket past, easy as

99% of trucks, will help you, when you are in their mirrors.

( sorry about the spellings )
