BEARING FAILURE WITH ELECTRIC BRAKES FITTED

Hi ALL,

Bearing failure on the HWY.

Question. Do Electric brakes interfere with having to change wheel bearings on the side of the road.

Eg: Do the brakes have to come off like brakes with dis rotors. I have always travelled with spare sets of bearings etc, on long trips. I  am always  prepaired on extended trips.

Your knowledge please.

Hey Jim & Lambie

Standard electric drum brakes for trailers don't interfere with bearing work in the hubs, all is good.

The brake drum & hub are one cast assembly. If there is wear in the brake drum you may have to back off the brake adjustment to be able to remove the hub-drum assembly.

Cheers Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for that tip. I will store this info in my trouble shooting book.

Regards Jim

Hi guys, I've been a great advocate for high temp grease in these bearings. Seems there is a fair bit of heat generated both by the magnet and brake linings.

Then again, don't sit on the brakes when going down hills, saw a guy today wobble like mad, put the foot brake on and increased the wobble, he must have woken up to using the van brake only and she straightened up. Not a pretty scene.

Cheers
