Alice Springs showgrounds

We are leaving Port Augusta soon to head up the Centre, and it was suggested to us that the showgrounds in the Alice are a good place to stay.

Can anyone vouch for this?

We prefer the security of a caravan park in Alice. Usually stay at McDonnell Range CP. It is costly but a bit away from main part of town. Good security.

From memory there is a town camp in the general area of the showgrounds.

Some people volunteer some labour to the Trucking museum set up and get to stay there, that way.

We stayed at the Wintersun which is a Top Tourist park and also the closest to the town. It was clean and well run. We had no problems but found the razor wire around the park a bit strange but apparently necessary. Went for a few walks in that area also with no problems but when we got back behind the razor wire and the security gates we felt safer. Despite being "the Alice" it just did not seem like Australia to us....more like a war zone. Next time we visit we will be more relaxed but initially it is confronting.
Good Luck.

Hi all

It's been a while since have been active. Alice must have changed a bit since last there. Currently looking for an AVan 2001 era model - what year is yours Denis ?

We stay at G'day Mate these days.  Well looked after and clean. Good amenities.  Reasonably priced. Owner is very hands on and friendly. Couldn't recommend them more. Have stayed there numerous times. Have a look at their page on FB.

I camped at the Alice Show Grounds last year for the Ulysses AGM , it's right next to the sewage treatment plant , talk about stink when the wind was blowing the wrong way , which was most of the time .

If you want a good value park you could try either of these - Temple Bar Caravan Park- or - Wanngardi Caravan Park

Thanks all for your advice.  Looks like we won't be staying at the showground, but there are plenty of other options.
