Glen Innes or Inverell

We are heading south and wanted to do some gem fossicking. Can anyone suggest which is better, Glen Innes or Inverell and what is a good caravan park to stay at?

All your help is welcomed.

Cheers Lorraine

Wife and I have stayed twice at Fossicker Caravan Park, Glen Innes, and highly recommend it as it has welcoming and helpful staff and clean amenities along with a good community kitchen. It is an easy walk to lots of places including the RSL Club which has an excellent and well-priced restaurant; and Woolworths is beside the RSL Club so that is handy too. There are other nearby facilities such as a petrol station, pie shop, butcher etc; and you can easily walk to the visitor information centre. On our first visit we were going to stay three nights and have a look around but stayed seven and explored the region and included a day-trip to Inverell and another to Tamworth. We rank it a top spot to camp (we had a caravan) and vsisit in general as Glen Innes itself has plenty to see and visit. Second visit was only an overnighter and everything was rosy. BUT, tv reception we could not get on either visit.

I should have added that we did not go fossicking, but at Fossicker Caravan Park they sell $10 and $20 bags of diggings you can process there with the park's facilities, or take them with you. We do however recommend the Central Queensland gemfields where stayed for seven nights at Gemseekers CP, Rubyvale, and had a very good time, including participating in a tag-along day of fossicking where we did okay.

We recently stayed at the Inverell Caravan Park. When coming from Glen Innes, its on the left 150 metres past the Bowls Club. $30 2A powered per night. Beautiful gardens, very clean amenities and well serviced pool.
Best sites are those that back onto the fence parallel to the river. Best shady spots for summer.
