12 Volt Fridge/Freezer

Hi,

I am new at this. We bought a 12/24/240 volt "Mishto S55" fridge/freezer made by Cenco from Bit-Deals Vic. late last year to take away caravaning mainly as an extra freezer. We went away in the April school holidays, so I packed up the new fridge/freezer with frozen meat. After a day or 2 I noticed that the items in the small section had thawed out. I had the unit set at -10 degs. C, what I found was that the main section was at -10 C and the small section was at 0 C. I advised Bit-Deals of my findings and they stated that all the fridge should be at the same set temp. and to send it back which I did when we got home. Bit-Deals advised me that the unit was checked and was in good working and were sending it back, I replied that they should refund my purchase amount because in their description on Ebay they state that this unit can be used as all fridge or all freezer but without any further correspondance on their part sent the unit back and since then will not answer any emails to me or Ebay. Since then I have investigated a bit more about portable fridges and notice that this unit only has cooling coils in the main section and that's why the 10 deg. C difference. I found that if I set the unit at -20 C the small section gets down to about -8 C and the main section is around -20 C.

So again in this life you only get what you pay for!!! Bit-Deals could of explained this to me and I wouldn't been so frustrated with this purchased, so after a long road I don't feel totally cheated for buying this average unit for $419.

So no more buys from Bit-Deals for me forever!!!!

are you sure the small section is not a dairy section which is in a lot of 12v fridge/freezers, because that section wont freeze

Looking at a picture of one, they are no different to most other portable fridge freezer. The small part is never intended to be used as a freezer. Waeco units look the same layout. To me the Bit Deals one is quite a reasonable buy.

Agree with all the replies as my Waeco copy is the same - small section is not cooled by coils. This is not a problem as that's what you use for dairy products.
Good Luck.

Hi,

Thanks for all your comments, I don't feel too bad about my buy now, there is no information in the user manual about the small section not being a freezer it makes sense now, this all started when the supplier Bit-Deals informed me that ALL the sections should be at the same temperature, it would of been good if they knew what they were selling!!! Thanks again.

You don't by chance still have the phone number for Bit Deals? We have a 12 / 240volt fridge that isn't working anymore and have contacted them several times through eBay without success

A quick Google search shows the following, don't know if it works or not:

Bit Deals. 26-38 8. Epping VIC 3076. Australia. Phone numbers (03) 8401 3500.

Thanks for that. Surprise surprise. The phone number doesn't work. Might have to report them to eBay as they are not replying to any emails sent but they are still actively selling.
