would anyone know if this ferry is suitable for 22ft caravans? we were planning to cross on this to go to Cape Tribulation then read some info today that said the road past the ferry wasn't recommended for caravans due to height clearance. Would anyone know if that is the case? July, not now.
Hi Dianne, these pics taken in 2010,the ferry is about five cars long, takes buses ,as per sign,as for tree clearence, I can't remember but buses must be OK.The vehicles are on the ferry and the boom wasn't in the photo when I took it (dill).........cheers Peter

We only did a day trip in our car,we stayed in Port Douglas at a caravan park.We have a 5 tonne motor home and didn't want to pay the extra fees for the river crossing......cheers Peter.

We were there last year, the ferry itself is fine, the road from the ferry to Cape trib is tight and winding, it can be done but with great care. I spoke to a couple who wished they hadn't done it and they still gad the return to do. Spoke with others who thought it was ok.
we did it in the Motor home without issue, but take it easy.

We did the trip in 2014. The ferry is fine for car and caravan. We took our caravan and had no problems. As others have said the road is narrow and windy but you could easily take your caravan up there.
Thanks all, it looks amazing up there. Thanks for the info!
Pathfinder, regarding picture on your profile, click on your name when your profile comes up check out the left hand toolbar. You will see "avatar" . You'll probably be right from there, just pick photo from your library or something cute like rastas. Yell out if you don't find it.
I made the trip easily in a new Hire car <Ford Territory> from Cairns Airport.......only when we got back did we see in the fine print <who ever reads all that gaff!>.. that none of their hire cars were to be taken past the ferry...that was the Northern distance extremity....oooppps....straight into the car wash before returning it...not even a feint scratch...glad we made the trip.. simply beautiful country....and no reason to go fast..too much to enjoy....Hoo Roo.

Hi we have driven up to Cape Trip. with a car, but not towing a van. Last Year we went up to Cape York on a Cargo Ship out of Cairns to the Tip and Horn & Thursday Islands. The Cargo shipTrinity Bay was terrific plenty of food, great crew it was for 5 nights had a wonderful time great way to get up to the tip with out damage to car & van. And it was cost friendly. Ship bought back 6 4WD's that did not make it. Would recomenned this trip had a great time all smoth sailing there was 30 passengers. We went end of June weather perfect.
