Caravan shelter

Has anyone had experience with caravan shelters . There are several different manufactures , as they all seem to be in Queensland it will be sight unseen ,  I don't want to make an expensive mistake

In anticipation John

More info needed - will it be lean-to, steel roof, canvas, alsynite, permanent, semi-permanent DIY or want it assembled, legal or not telling council, for a windy area, size of van etc.

Hi denis
I will be looking for a shelter for a 21 ft van , steel roof , DIY , semi permanent . Unfortunately will need council approval ,as it has a sold roof and will be over ten feet high , I'M not looking forward to that , having had experience replacing a shed . Being on the coast in South Australia we get some pretty good sea breezes , but not cyclonic .

John

I'm very interested in this subject and eagerly wait for answers, size of motor home about the same as John's van.

Friends of ours have one made by the mob below - it's virtually identical to the one at their home page. It was installed when they bought the house so cannot give price but you could call them. It's QLD unfortunately so add another $800 or so for freight but I'm sure there will be some one in SA that also makes them or are the agents. This mob made many different variations and are available with a cyclone kit.

When we had ours done, (2002) we used a local contractor and told him the dimensions we wanted and he came and built it, 4 posts with a roof and gutter, concrete slab to take load, reinforced with suitable footings.

You might want to consider whether the sun will get in all day and destroy the tyres, and whether there is enough room alongside to wash the van or work on it without moving it.

For our 16' pop top I had it made 6m square, and can park the car trailer alongside, and plenty of room around the van. It gets very little sun, and at the time of shopping around it was the cheapest option and we got exactly what we wanted.

The rain gets in around the edges, but the main object was protection from sun and hail.
